General Summary
Sending Zed
- The party attempted to contact Zed via sending.
- The Book of Zed was found to contain, after thirty or so blank pages, the word help written repeatedly.
- "Help? Help? I don't need help. I have my ship of bones to sail deep in the dark. Hush now, or else the lady will hear."
Decisions
- Upset by the revelations about his father, Gelflael left the restaurant and the party.
- After interrogating Helena and determining that she seemed to be satisfied with the level of vengeance she had achieved, and possibly sold her soul, the captain freed her from the closet and let her go free.
- Donnie briefly communicated with the captain regarding her nephew's state of mind. Through Cedric, she informed the captain that he did not need to track Gef down, so long as he was safe.
- Rust was disappointed the Gef had left, as Donnie had indicated that Gef would be able to find her contact for the purposes of helping him track down a particular item.
- Donnie informed Rust that Querry/Quenryn could be found either in the Auroliryni capitol or around Lake Willowfell to the north.
- Still intending to cure Ryltar of the vampirism infection they had slowed with the magical anti-disease necklace, the captain identified a temple of Luin just to the west of Fallenhaunt. The party headed in this direction.
Welcome to an Actually Active Temple
- Unlike the Maze of Bones in Celeb, the ruined temple in Doran, the first temple in the painting at Sen's Outpost, or the nearly abandoned Circle of the Moon near the frost giant lands, Luin's Darkwood temple was both intact, well cared for, and populated.
- There was a large temple in the center. At each of the cardinal directions, was a smaller shrine. One to Luin, and one to her allied gods, Thor and Lyra/Aurolyr.
- There was a fourth shrine previously dedicated to Gyrdyr but this one seemed abandoned.
- The captain greeted a cleric of Luin who called herself Anaise. She was at first against any thought of performing the ritual in question, let alone doing it at her temple. She was convinced only by the captain's words and evidence that the party seemed to have the favour of Luin and her allies.
- Anaise agreed to assist in the ritual as best she could, but to use the temple the party would need to convince the other three shrine keepers.
Shrine to Lyra
- Lyra's shrine was mostly empty when the party arrived, save the shrine keeper, Renora, who was sitting at the back, reading a book, and wearing comfy slippers. She initially ignored the party.
- Alton entered this shrine, said a prayer, and slightly stumbled through a ritual. He expressed confusion as to why his blessing was non-alcoholic.
- Renora was somewhat concerned that the party were sky pirate hooligans attempting a dangerous ritual but she was more or less easily convinced to help.
- The captain called Donnie for the most interesting thing unearthed in the treasure. Thus, Renora was traded a dragon statue made entirely of red gems that plays orchestral music when in dim light in exchange for her help.
- Alton later returned to ask for more specific help in saving Ryltar and was greeted by Lyra herself, who said she couldn't do everything for him but would be helping. She also expressed not having time or patience for obscure prophecy or signs.
Shrine to Luin
- While the greater temple itself was dedicated to Luin, there was also a smaller shrine to Luin where the shrine keeper, Gladmal, was hard at work smithing armour in his god's name.
- Kyrie was a apprentice to Gladmal.
- There were other worshipers in this shrine as well.
- Gladmal was not in favour of the risk of the ritual. He claimed to have seen it fail before. He was eventually persuaded that the party could deal with any fallout after a brief duel with Captain Farren.
- While in this shrine, Farren's 1st level smites did not consume any of his power. Both were also healed at the end of the encounter
- Meanwhile, Rust attempted to re-forge one of his sickles in Luin's forge. He found the item burned to ash, and it's shadow given to the silent shadow guardian.
- It seemed Rust had somehow angered Luin. The shadow called him a thief. Rust had no idea what the shadow was referring to.
- Rust attempted to converse briefly with this shadow being.
- The shadow guardian reflected bright silver/blue light where it was hit by the light of the forge.
Shrine to Thor
- The shrine to Thor was decorated with many images depicting various godly adventures.
- The shrine keeper was a man named Vermund, who was persuaded to assist the party given Krumbleton's status.
The Ritual
- The party encouraged Ryltar, and ensured him everything would be alright.
- The captain received a vision of warning from Luin
- While the progression of the infection had been nearly halted, Ryltar had already been infected for several days before the party found him.
- The ritual was much more difficult than when it was performed for Harold. A massive vampiric mist engulfed the magic circle.
- The party managed to fight of the mist, but Ryltar was barely hanging on.
- Thanks to the captain warding him from one death, Lyra offering one reroll, Luin's temple, and the combined effort of all involved, Ryltar was barely saved.
- Ryltar passed out due to exhaustion.
- Gladmal inspected all who had been drained by the mist to ensure no one else was infected. The captain stated that if anyone was they were performing the ritual again the next night.
