The Circle of the Sword 15/2/2458-17/2/2458

General Summary

"I need holy water ... and a prayer wheel. I don't know what that is... but I can pray... and spin." -Krumbleton

Escape from the Sapphire Island

  • The party landed on the ship below where Gore the Barbarian was ready at the helm.
  • They sailed through the inky, nigh impenetrable darkness. The jellyfish like dark bits caused the sword of Luin to flicker.
  • The party largely resisted the strange wave of fear that washed over them
  • Krumbleton is incredibly wise
  • Hugs and Mudslide were left behind.

Beyond the Darkness

  • Once free from the low inky darkness, the party attempted to use Alton's bow to orient themselves.
  • Kayelin tugged largely in two directions, but it became evident that someone the bound vampire did not like was tailing the party.
  • The ship's wards do not affect the bow.
  • At Judy's call, the captain spotted an enormous bird flying towards the ship.
  • It appeared to be the vampiric roc.
  • Harold attempted to strike it with lightning.
  • The feathers were slightly singed, but the bird did not slow.
  • A voice called out to the party, wishing to speak to the captain.

Cole Raymond

  • Lord Raymond greeted the captain and apologized for his lack of hospitality. He claimed that he did not know the they were coming. In his defense, he said, they had not been exemplary guests.
  • Lord Raymond "assured" the party that he had no intention of pursuing them. Vengeance, he said, so often brought more pain than satisfaction.
  • He claimed that he had originally intended to approach them nearer dawn, to put them more at ease.
  • Raymond asked for the Book of the Dark, that Myviira had had in her possession. He claimed it was more trouble than it was worth but wished for it to be in its place in his library.
  • Raymond claimed to have no affiliation with the hags, beyond the involvement the hags had once had in the creation of the early vampires.
  • Raymond briefly indicated that there were other vampires who might want to seek vengeance for Myviira. They would, of course, listen to him should he order them otherwise.
  • He seemed about to threaten the party but, when the captain seemed unimpressed, he backed off that point. The captain suddenly became convinced that he was a pretty cool dude.
  • The captain sought info on the coven, learning that Bitterheart and the "redheaded" hags were likely the most powerful of the coven at the present time. He mentioned that they had robbed even gods of their power but were wagering it against each other. He was not informed enough to know whose present schemes were more profitable.
  • The captain gave Raymond Waxtoppler's book of the dark.
  • Gantar was displeased.
  • Alton was concerned.
  • Gantar attempted to lightning bolt the book, but the book remained undamaged and the vampire was unfazed. Raymond mocked Gantar, and claimed the dying star would already be dead like the rest of his kind if his predecessor had not captured him. He also claimed to have forgotten Gantar was still around.
  • Raymond seemed to overhear much of what the party whispered, and had knowledge of them.
  • It was theorized that perhaps vamp Vek had given him at least some of his information.
  • Apparently Talabiira had found hugs in Myviira's foyer. Raymond graciously offered to have him returned.
  • Raymond left.

A Great Healing and Other Matters

  • Alton sought out Krumbleton's healing magic to restore Ryltar's severed tongue.
  • Krumbleton felt the magic of Thor within him and prepared and cast the spell.
  • Ryltar was grateful and dined on Krubleton's chile.
  • Ryltar once more shared his story with the party. He claimed that Gore the Barbarian and Mirdock and Judy had attempted to fight Myviira. He said that Fernando had saved Wyn, who had tried to fight as well. He said she started controlling some of them, and that he had surrendered to keep them safe.
  • Ryltar claimed that Myviira had been attempting to restore her daughter to life. Apparently, there had been three other prisoners like the dark elf girl they had rescued.
  • The captain allowed the other rescued prisoner to remain on the ship and promised to bring her eventually back to her home in the south city of Caiaryn.
  • Vaena continued to have a bad attitude and chewed Alton out for not summoning her in the vampire castle.
  • Rust built a new construct. It was almost attacked.
  • Gantar expressed Harold's plan to restore Gantar's power by possibly sacrificing himself.
  • The captain's insistence to speak with Harold brought his once more to the surface. Harold immediately asked the captain to smite him in order to test his radiant immunity.

The Circle of the Sword

  • While the Key of Worlds was recharging, the party sailed east to the Circle of the Sword.
  • The area was long abandoned.
  • Gantar felt something older than he was.
  • There were sunburst patterns with upwards facing swords in their centers oft repeated in the worn carvings.
  • There was some moon symbology but the sun seemed a more prevalent theme.
  • The layout of the pillars was reminiscent of the Circle of the Moon.
  • The patterns were also reminiscent of the stained glass in Andichar's lair.
  • There was a huge boulder with spikes coming out of it. The party worked together to move it, finding a set of armour worn by a skeleton in front of three smaller skeletons. There was a broken sword in it's hand. The sword was nearly identical to the captain's sword of sunlight.
  • When held near the sword of sunlight, the captain's sword became translucent momentarily. Similarly holding the sword to the boulder did the same, also causing the boulder to glow golden in the place it was touched.
  • The skeleton seemed to collapse into dust when the party removed the armour.
  • The captain took the two broken sword pieces and the armour into his bag.
  • As they were leaving, a ghostly figure formed of the dust and pointed to the deep still pool in the center of the ruin. "Witch" it said before vanishing.
  • Alton stuck his head in the water to take a look and was immediately knocked out.
  • The captain healing slapped Alton back awake and shone a light into the water.
  • There were still translucent figures within, standing guard.
  • The captain sensed that the holy place, it's hallowedness fading, was still holding something within the pool.
