Aejor Duskborn ("ay-jor dusk-born")

His Highness Aejor Duskborn

"When the last of the Hill in Shadow is as dust, the wayward king's passing shall bring an era of love and an age of pain."
  • from the Prophecies of Amun Morchant
  • Physical Description

    General Physical Condition

Strong and lean despite his considerable age.

    Facial Features

Elongated and wizened, even for an elf, giving a strange and otherworldly appearance younger elves do not have -- or perhaps have lost over the generations.

    Special abilities

Simply being around Aejor seems to lighten one's step, mood and morale substantially.

    Apparel & Accessories

Aejor dresses in elaborate robes when not readying for battle in the traditional reds and golds of his clan.  He also possesses a treasured piece of ancient adamant mail belonging to his order.  He has never worn it in living memory.

    Mental characteristics

    Personal history

The Last Prince of Amun Morchand, the ancestral city of the Duskborn clan of Sun Elves, he and his wife Amaranthae were forced to flee from the encroaching sands to the last druid oasis stronghold in the area.  On the trek, his wife died and left only their daughter Astraia to remember her by.   He is the last of a paladin group called the Anad'arqueni'e and the second to last of the ancient Duskborn line of elven nobility.   He now rules and protects the last of his people, mere hundreds of what had once been thousands, in the tiny village surrounding a druidic oasis in the shadow of al-Ankhar.  While none would outright say it to the man who had saved them from certain destruction, his considerable venerability cannot be ignored.   He has recently staked his and his people's entire future in a desperate gamble by sending his daughter along on the Southern Sands Expedition to find a way to save the slowly dying oasis.

    Sexuality

    Heterosexual

    Employment

    • Leader of the Duskborn Oasis.
    • Last of the Anad'arqueni'e.

    Morality & Philosophy

While adhering to the tenets of the mysterious paladin order to which he is the last, he holds his people higher than all else and is willing to defy what appears like destiny itself from giving into drought and despair.  He somehow defies even death itself to continue living, trying his best to ensure any sort of future for the elven people.

    Personality Characteristics

    Motivation

To preserve what little remains of a once great and prospering civilization.

    Reign

Despite the neverending loss of territory and life under his rule, the fact he has saved anyone has been widely considered a heroic feat.  The Duskborn follow his leadership unquestioningly, loyally, and with much love for their aging ruler.

    History

Now near fabled as the joining of Sun and Moon, what had been an arranged marriage between two dying elven princedoms had soon blossomed into love.  Aejor's practicality and Amaranthae's generosity allowed Amun Morchant to live longer than most, even after Amaranthae's kingdom was swallowed by the sands and roaming Sah'ra raiders.  The Moon Elf bride soon fell into a deep depression even her doting husband often failed to shake her from.   Centuries passed the couple, childless, as Amaranthae did not wish to bring further life into the dying Wadi.  It was only at the abandonment of Amun Morchant for the druid oasis and pressure from the few remaining Duskborn advisors did she finally bear the Duskborns an heir, unfortunately a girl-child as frail and dainty as she had grown to be.  Astraia.   Broken and ashamed that she had done such a terrible thing to her husband for bearing not a son but a daughter, and for bringing life into what she believed was a dying and hopeless world, she committed suicide by wandering into the wastes, never to be seen again.   Aejor never took another wife and swore to never once give up hope as she had.  Perhaps a little broken himself by the loss of so much in his life, he insists to this day that his wife is still out in the wastes somewhere, alive, waiting for him to one day join her.   The utterance of her name is forbidden in the Duskborn Oasis, lest old Aejor finally snap and ride out into the sands to chase her ghost.
