The Cult of Jabberwock

The Cult of Jabberwock is the generic term for worshippers of the Duskscape Regent of art, fiction, mathematics, theoretical physics, the avant garde and insanity, Jabberwock. They are also known as the School of the Laughing Master, the Empyrical Poets and the Honest Liars, among many other epithets. Any insulting names they receive from detractors they wear with the most pride.

It is common for societies in most Quadrants to identify Duskscape religions as "cults" due to a general distaste for worshipping the Cenobites, though in regions where Jabberwockian leagues are more commonplace, they tend to be accepted as eccentric but harmless. Despite the fearsome reputation of draconic gods—particularly in the wake of the First Dragon Wars—Jabberwock is an intensely cerebral and largely peaceful deity.

Modus Operandi

The primary drive of their cults is the exploration of unknown ideas. Worshippers are drawn to art, philosophy, mathematics and any other field that questions the status quo or "stagnant thinking". The emerging Ars of Alchemy counts a few of Jabberwock's cults among its innovators. They see truths as stars in the dark space of falsehoods, that there are many undiscovered "stars" of truth and that one must not be afraid of exploring the nonsense in between truths to find new ones. Though the Laughing Master has no organized church as such, their followers meet on occasion to hold salons or host exhibitions. These gatherings are popular even amongst the wider arts & philosophy communities in some regions, though they receive the same distrust that most worshippers of the Duskscape Regents do.

Major Leagues

The most famed of Jabberwock's proclaimants was the wandering poet and argumentative pedant Zaffa the Idiot, who eventually became a minor demigod of paradoxes and true falsehoods. As such Jabberwockian Leagues tend to be most common in regions where Zaffa's writings are most widespread. In particular this means the continent of Khayyam, where the technology for the printing press has been rediscovered from a specimen in the deepest storerooms of the Sultanate of Furia, and the reprinting of the Idiot's major works has begun in earnest. The Sultans of Furia and Volta, Lakodalmas and Jamshid, are particularly fond of Zaffa's works and their fiefs are likely the two sole places on the plane where Jabberwockian Leagues are tolerated unquestioningly.
Music: A traditional song popular in Zaffaite salons in the mountainous Sultanate of Volta in Khayyam. Such songs are played alongside poetry readings, discussions and the like. The throat singing aspect is considered valuable in bringing about heightened states of mind.   Banner: A humanoid depiction of Jabberwock.
