The Kinyria-Mors Incident

The warring between the Colonial and Insurgent Gods was a series of events that were often brutal and desperate, but perhaps the event most spoken in hushed tones is the Kintyria-Mors Incident. In it, the independent city-state of Kintyria-Mors—a known hideout for Insurgent armies such as the Wardens of Emeliat Reis—was attacked with a virulent arcane-biomantic contagion created by the Kelpeater Colonial Goddess and arch-biomancer, Kozu'e. The contagion did not differentiate between Warden knights and innocent Kintyrian citizens, killing tens of thousands over the course of less than a month.

The Contagion

The Contagion's effects were initially subtle, mostly presenting as fever and irritability, but would quickly escalate into restlessness, inability to sleep and extreme aggression, similar to certain strains of Rabies. The aggression particularly benefitted Kozu'e's plans as it not only assisted transmission, but also painted affected Wardens and Asphodelites in a negative light. Once the damage was done, victims would rapidly deteriorate, usually expiring of diarrhetic fluid loss or cardiac arrest.

Results

In addition to its devastating casualty count, the incident represented a major step back for the Insurgent cause. The Kelpeater Dominion went to great effort propagandizing the contagion, painting it as a warning to any nation that hides Insurgent activity. According to the ruling Lichlords, the contagion was borne of Insurgent immorality, emerging like a curse from the free cities' revolutionary assassins' guilds and Asphodelite brothels (though not an Insurgent God, the night goddess Asphodel was a vicious rival to Colonials in her own way).

The event is credited in transforming the heroic and involved demigoddess Emeliat Reis into a more distant, introspective being known as the Lady of the Mountain. Her activities would become less pronounced over the following few centuries. She would eventually be drawn back out by the ascendant demigod of warmth and heroism, Solonn, but the Lady's seclusion would be strongly felt in the mean time.
