Session 75 Vinal Tap Report
General Summary
The party watches in shock as Wyllow, the seeming queen of Level 5, the Wyllowwood, flies back to her tower having just been attacked by Valdemar, the green dragon who until moments ago was possessed by Tearulai, a sentient sword, now in Thredd Dorselar's possession. As Valdemar is considering what to do with the party, Tearulai speaks in Thredd's mind, urging her to destroy the dragon. She tries to speak with it but it seems becoming unattuned has dwindled the sword's power.
Valdemar tells the party because they rid him of the sword and the fact they seem to have a common enemy in Wyllow he will spare them. He tells them he wants this domain as his and if they will help him defeat Wyllow he will spare them and allow them to find a way off this level of Undermountain. As the party is questioning Valdemar, much to his annoyance, the sky goes from day to night and the temperature drops so suddenly it must be magical.
The party realizes they must take shelter and continue on to the ruins of the cult where the goblin werebats live. The party is attacked by giant bats they recognize as once residing on Wyllow's tower. It seems she has fully turned on the party and will use her domain against them. The party defeats the giant bats and finds the ruins. They find evidence that people lived here many years ago (along with a Speak with Animals scroll) and it looks like they were killed by a poison gas (likely Tearulai working under Wyllow's guidance).
The party finds a safe room to take a short rest and Thredd attunes to Tearulai. It boasts of its infamy and all the deeds that have been done while heroes weilded the sword. It speaks of wanting to return to Myth Drannor, a once great elven city to the east. It also suggests enhancing itself by adding any gems or precious stones the party might have. Thredd placates the sword. Cameron Overholt is jealous once he realizes Thredd has a sentient sword.
The party mull over their options in dealing with Wyllow. They decide to take a long rest so they are at their best if they fight her tomorrow. They think the room they've found is fairly defensible. A few hours into their long rest something starts banging on the door. Two awakened trees and a vine golem attempt to get into the room. The trees are thankfully too large to get inside. They realize the vine golum is somehow a conduit for Wyloow as it casts Sun Beam on all three members of the party, doing significant damage. Thredd tries to Polymorph the vine golem using Tearulai but it doesn't work.
Cameron hides, having taken much damage, but manages to help Andryn Stormpeak with Flash of Genius on the vine golems next spell attack, but Thredd isn't as lucky and is paralyzed. As the party struggles to stay up they feel the vine golem amping up to do a 8th Level spell Fire Storm just as Andryn's magma mephits burn it alive as her Spiritual Guardians. The party kills the remaining two trees, telling Wyllow this is her fault.
Finally, the night is quiet and the party can take a full rest. (And level up! 8th Level)
