Kingdom of Gotkolh

North of the Vexan coast, just over the horizon gone, there lies the land of the gnomes. Secluded and lonesome, on it's own rock the sea, but also strong and developed this land is. With machines that can create themselves and so many books that everyone can read, with doctors that can cure the most deadly of deseases.

This is the land of Gotkolh.

The Kingdom of Gotkolh is a nation located for most of its history solely on the island of Gotkolh, a large island located just north of West-Argo. Inhabited by a population of nearly exclusively gnomes, the nation, and by extension gnomes in general, have gained a reputation for excellence in the sciences and technological prowess. The nation is famed for being extremely technologically and arcanally advanced compared to the surrounding nations, being the origins of among more steampower, firearms and the autocarriage, along with rediscovering the lost Melisternian technologies of spell infusion and arcane batteries.

In order to protect their knowledge from the outside world, the Kingdom of Gotkolh has always used severe isolationist policies, such as banning all immigration and emigration, making gnomes outside of Gotkolh a rare occurrence.

The making of the Law on Gotkolh is managed by the King. He is obliged to make in conversation with his advisors new laws when he sees fit. In practice new laws are made by a union of large companies in the country, the so called People's Union. They send every year a letter, called the People's Wishes. In this letter is a list of changes in the law that these companies want together with, more often not a hefty amount, of "compensation money". Since these buisnesses are critical for the economic dependancy of the state, it is custom for the monarch to agree to the wishes, in a ceremony that has become quite famous in Gotkolh, the so called "Mighebis Sit’q’va" or "Acceptance Speech".
