A central place for learning and knowledge, and the best place to go to learn and prepare for an upcoming mission. Time spent here is for gathering knowledge and research, poring over tomes, translating artifacts, and conducting interviews with witnesses.
When you build or upgrade the library, the building itself is renovated, new rooms set up, and people brought in to help. Artifacts are purchased from the mainland and back north, books are imported, and aides transcribe as many finds and scouting reports as possible - all it needs is an expert in to make sense of it all.

2nd	1,000 gp	When rolling, if your total bonus to the skill chosen is +8 or higher, you may take the Critical Success option on a die result of 19 - 20
3rd	2,000 gp	When rolling, you may ignore the result of a critical failure, and replace the total result of your check with 10 if it is lower
4th	4,000 gp	You have advantage on all skills checks made for research

Research

Spending downtime on research in the Library lets you uncover useful knowledge helping you in the upcoming adventure, and lasting bonuses based on your topic of research.
To perform research, choose a focus, such as topic you wish to know more about, an object discovered in the game, a location or device to investigate, or a source of power to learn from. This skill check can only be modified by an effect that lasts for the entire duration of the downtime. You may then choose any result on the table equal to your check total or lower.
The skill check should be appropriate to what you are investigating - for example, an Intelligence (History) or Intelligence (Investigation) check to pore over documents or ancient texts, a Charisma (Persuasion) roll to interview people for information, a Dexterity(Tinker's Tools) check to determine how an artifact works, a Tools check relevant to a rare material to unlock its potential, or an Intelligence (Arcana) or Spellcasting Ability Modifier check to learn from a source of magical power.

If the die roll for the skill check is a natural 20, you may choose to take the Critical Success result; if the die roll is a natural 1 you must take the Critical Failure result.

Critical Failure	Disaster	Something goes critically wrong - you may finish your research believing something untrue about the topic, with a damaged artifact which is now studied at disadvantage, or able to prepare one fewer spells next adventure
5 or higher	Wealth	No new information, but restoration work, scribing or a short treatise worth money to the right people. Roll a number of d8's equal to the rank of the Library - you earn gp equal to the total multiplied by your level.
10 or higher	Information	New understanding of the topic - learn something hidden about the topic, a clue or secret that may help the upcoming adventure, new usage or skills with an artifact, or reveal a clue about an ongoing mystery
20 or higher	Progress	A bonus, usually temporary or needing further work to exploit, and scaling with the rank of the Library. For each rank, request complete tactical information on a creature during the next adventure, temporarily prepare a bonus spell related to your topic, or improve a rare crafting material's value to +15% of base.
25 or higher	Breakthrough	A lasting and potent advantage. Learn something which may lead to a new adventure or plot hook, design a new item of up to Very Rare rarity that is cheaper to create, gain a new proficiency, or permanently add a new spell to your class list.
Critical Success	Revelation	A huge, critical discovery related to your topic of study. A long-hidden secret about the world is revealed, a previously unknown spell is discovered, an item of up to Legendary rarity is designed, or a hidden location is found.
