Garrigill

Garrigill is a village in the southwest foothills in the territory of Mystryl. It is a small village of only about 30 standing structures, all of which are in dilapidated condition.   The village is well populated for its size, and the residents can handle all the day-to-day tasks necessary to keep a settlement together. There is no real wealth in the village, with about half the population struggling to carve out even a meager existence. Those who scrape together a living do so mainly through the breeding of labor livestock, such as oxen, plow horses, and donkeys. There is minimal grain farming for subsistence and trade, with all other essentials coming through the sale or trade of their livestock.   The ethnic composition of Garrigill is roughly a normal distribution. Humans make up the primary ethnic group, and gnomes are the second-largest group. Garrigilligans are neutral to outsiders; they don't understand how or why anyone would visit them, but they won't turn them away if they bring precious coin with them.   Management of the village is a bit chaotic. No one is appointed to a long-term leadership position. Instead, the village operates as an anarcho-syndicalist commune, with each adult resident taking turns for a tenday, or even as long as a month. Leadership then moves to the next person in the rotation. Law enforcement is a disorganized rabble, the quintessential village mob that forms quickly to address a specific problem. Village issues are discussed in the gathering hall on the south side of the settlement. Otherwise, the only building of note is the Murky Well, a dingy tavern where hard-working farmers can drink their concerns away.   A small shrine is set up near the center of the village. The residents don't worship one god exclusively, but instead allow for the worship of any good-aligned god. Outside of traditional worship, the residents are very superstitious. The most prevalent belief is that a carrion bird landing in front of you means you or someone close to you will die soon.   The Party traveled through Garrigill in search of escaped prisoners from Mystryl. They hired a man named Old Jarvey to lead them through the unknown foothills. Jarvey was concerned at first, as a carrion bird had landed in front of him that day. But being an exceedingly poor man, Jarvey was bought by a sum of gold barely noticeable to the Party. Too bad for Jarvey, as his concerns were proven correct by a manticore attack.
