Illusion in Material Form

This staff represents the power of illusion, a fragment of Mystra's spirit coalesced into material form. The city of Tiilos was founded on the spot this staff appeared to spring forth from the ground of Winderia. The staff appears to fade in and out of existence. Each time the wielder casts an illusion spell, the staff flares into a swirl of shadows and then reforms into its natural appearance.
Only a 20th-level wizard devoted to the arcane tradition of illusion may attempt to attune to this staff. This can only occur after they have gained the approval of Mystra as the next Illusionist of the Eight and wielder of Veil, typically by completing a grand quest on her behalf. The staff dramatically increases the wielder's magical capabilities, particularly in the use of illusion magic. However, the wielder cannot stray too far from the staff or suffer severe consequences.
Once a creature attunes to Veil, the attunement cannot be broken unless the wielder dies or the staff is destroyed.
