Marya and her twin Marika are almost identical, except that Marika has the Talat purple eyes while Marya has their father's blue eyes. Marya also has streaks of the Talat white in her hair. Both girls have their father's auburn hair, lips, and face shape but their mother's nose and curly hair.

Marya is the daughter of Emphir Arda Talat the Younger and Julian Arion; she is the third of their four children, just minutes younger than her twin sister Marika.

Like her older brother Emrah Talat the Younger, Marya has strong ties to many nations outside of the Empire. First and foremost, the rulers of his vassal states the Principalities of Heirin and Staton, Taylan Foxrun and Eri Kayani are her first cousins once removed; Eri by blood, Taylan by adoption.
