Studio

wow that's a lot of stars is a sci-fi setting about adventure, exploration, and discovery. Every person, place, and thing has a story to tell, if you listen closely.   Setting Intro | Visitor's Guide | Author's Intentions

This article is focused on Nisora, the lawless black market planet.
Most who walk past the Studio don't notice the brick building at all, but for those who are invited inside, it's one of the few places they truly feel safe. The Studio's hosts find those afflicted with psionic ailments that institutions can't help with and welcome them into a space that helps them find the answers they need.

Exclusive Entry

The Studio is a three-story building within Galendra's Residential District. Nisoran brick glitters beneath a vine that crawls up the façade, carefully trimmed around tinted privacy windows. Healthy greens and a collection of colorful flowers show from the roof, where a well-tended garden surrounds patio furniture. There's no sign on the building or nearby to indicate its purpose of providing what some call therapy for psionics.   Of the many Galendrans who walk past the Studio every day, few notice the building is there at all, unless they're among the rare individuals who are invited inside. To these guests, the Studio suddenly stands in stark contrast to the more modern apartment-style buildings that flank it. As if it was hidden by magic.

If the Studio's methods sounds familiar, there's good reason. The person behind its creation is Yasmin Ada, one of the original Witches. Though she is no longer connected to the group, she's brought forward the philosophy that saw her depart the Blue Spire Academy.

Guests and Their Hosts

Studio guests vary in all ways except one: They all suffer unique psionic maladies. These maladies are only life threatening if ignored, but formal psionic institutions rarely acknowledge they exist at all.   Those who work at the Studio can be called tutors, mentors, advisors, or counselors, but consider themselves merely hosts. They find psions who are struggling and invite them to the Studio for private help.   Unlike formal institutions, the Studio provides fluid and individualized guidance. It's based on the belief that you have to understand yourself and be at peace with your psionics in order to use them in productive and healthy ways. If each person has a unique relationship with their condition, their way through their struggles must be equally unique.

A World Apart

Entering the Studio is like entering a different world. The sounds of Galendra fade away - the traffic, the yelling, the music - replaced only with the quiet hum of ventilation. Past the front door is exposed brick and metal fixtures in a large entry room with a kitchen and living area. The vaulted ceiling shows the hallways above, accessed by a spiral staircase or gated elevator.   Smaller rooms line the hallways. On the first floor, it's mostly office space. On the second floor, there are libraries, sitting rooms, practice rooms, and more. The third floor is more private and offers sleeping space for those with nowhere else to go.   It's a place that shouldn't exist amid the chaos of Galendra. Somewhere quiet and cozy, slow and relaxed, at peace in the heart of a maelstrom.

Aw, this sounds so cosy. I am glad that it is a thing that exists. Your poor psions need somewhere like that.

There are lots of schools, communities, and support groups for psions, though the Studio is unique in its approach :)
