Corsith

A country that receives heavy tourism to its massive mountain ranges, vast fields of geysers and nynxtearsprings. While not being the biggest country on the continent, Corsith’s tunnel system is nearly as large as the landmass above.

Geography

Regions

Corsith is divided into two major regions which, when combined, contain nine subregions. While these regions differ in culture, they do not differ in law.
The two major regions are Corsith and Ragnien; they have been divided in 517 due to the new laws against slavery in every country. Following this law up with protests to be accepted as a society, goblin riots led dwarves to give up part of their previous territory for goblins and other enslaved minorities to live in peace. The natural cleft between the southern mountain ranges served as the guideline for the border.   The region Corsith is made up of Old Forest in the North West, The Tin Cans in the North East, Goldborder in the South East and The Surface stretching from the South West through the rest of the region.
Krupin is the capital of both the region and the nation Corsith, located in the southern centre of the country.   Ragnien is smaller than Corsith but has one more sub-region. The most well-known one is Swoop, having gotten its name from the land arm south of Kyneth river. The other subregions are The Caves in the West and North West, Ragnien stretching from West to East, Krr in the South and the Olios Islands to the South West of the shore.
Ragnien’s capital is the city of Greenrock which is located to the very east centre, close to the border to Corsith.

Texture

The Surface, Corsith
The Surface’s name comes from the tunnels buried beneath. Being known for its rich supply of natural resources - specifically metals - the dwarves began digging a massive tunnel system as early as the 3rd millennium BV. The overground area itself is covered in geysers and coldsprings known as nynxtearsprings, as they glitter with pearl dust. In the South of the region is part of the vast Aara mountain ranges, made most popular by the Green Mountain, the second tallest mountain in all of Vilandia. In the north, The Surface borders the country of Helios.   Old Forest, Corsith
In 27 BV, the dwarven forces managed to claim part of The Deep Woods for their people, but most of it was later passed on to Helios when it was formed. What remains is the subregion of Old Forest, a still densely forested area which is now rid of eldritch forces.   The Tin Cans, Corsith
This region is quite literally made of tin. A lot of the flat area is covered in scraps because water is being pumped from The Tins to metal cleaning facilities that throw the scraps onto junkyards.   Goldborder, Corsith
Goldborder’s name comes from the subregion bordering Elaminulios, the country known for being inhabited mostly by sun elves. This area is not as flat as most of Corsith - many hills decorate the landscape and in the South, a part of the Aara mountain ranges takes up almost half of Goldborder.     The Caves, Ragnien
The Caves is called The Caves because it has a lot of natural caves. Most of the ground is covered in sinkholes, cave entrances and swamps. The valleys between the mountains of the Nargend mountain ranges reach extremely far below ocean level and are flooded once a year during Stirfall.   Swoop, Ragnien
Swoop is a very flat and therefore densely populated area, its landarm being home to many sun nynx as it gets partially flooded during high tides. Large flower fields are common here, as the subregion borders Helios in the North.   Ragnien, Ragnien
Ragnien is shaped like a big valley from the Nargend mountain ranges all the way to the Corsith border and has very high tundra grass growth but no trees whatsoever. Even though the valley is massive, no lake is formed in the centre, as the ground is very dry and rain gets absorbed immediately.   Krr, Ragnien
Krr got its name from its inhabitants growling day in day out at the Aarakocra populating the Kocra mountain ranges, which make up the entirety of Krr aside from one grounded settlement in the North.   Olios Islands, Ragnien
The Olios Islands are three - in comparison - small, flat land masses. The two smaller ones in the South East are like big beaches and grow no plants while the bigger one does have lush meadows and a forest in its centre, being home to many non-native flowers.

    Habitants

The region of Corsith is mostly populated by dwarves and gnomes but the Aara mountain ranges, like the Kocra mountain ranges in Ragnien, are home to many Aarakocra who, of course, caused the nickname of the mountains to become their official title. While Aarakocra do not interfere much in the other races’ way of life, they are very protective of their mountain range and will only tolerate select people invading their territory, despite the law allowing anyone to settle anywhere they like as long as they have legal citizenship in said country.
The most common languages in Corsith are Dwarven, Goblin, Elvish in the East and Heli in the North.   Ragnien is mostly populated by Goblins and Kobolds, as both races are small and nimble, making them able to navigate the dangerous mountain ranges and grounds of The Caves. Previously shunned by many, both have established a more or less civilized culture but are seen by most as very primitive as Common is not often spoken in any of the Ragnien subregions and they have not picked up on the production of manatech, nor do they have any schools or real government institutions.
Swoop is also home to many lezar, dragonborn and sun nynx, as well as some small tortle settlements.
The most common languages in Ragnien are Kobold, Goblin and Heli in the North.   While the Olios Islands do not have settlements, they are home to many temples and festival grounds which are most frequented by pillagers, newlyweds, artists and expecting parents from all over Vilandia to pray to or celebrate the god of love and craftsmanship.

    Traditions

Smiths and merchants. Naturally, smith and merchant are the jobs that make up a majority of Corsith’s economy with high export rates of metals and gear and high import rates of cloth and foods. Small family smithing businesses are being established and abandoned many times over the course of a decade.
Corsith is one of the few areas not heavily influenced by the Silverscale Trading Company because of their vast variety of native merchants.   Family drums. Dwarven and Gnomish bards are very popular in other countries for their extraordinary drumming techniques. The fascination for drums hailed from the Dwarves’ rhythmic and echoing mining sounds to which they sing songs to entertain themselves and others as they work in the mines.
Every family has their own - enchanted to withstand time - drum painted with the family sigil which is played at every major event; weddings, funerals, birthday parties et cetera.   Beard jewelry. Most Dwarves tend to braid jewelry into their beards every time an important event happens, these pieces are usually engraved with a symbol for whatever they are supposed to commemorate.   Knock domestication. Kobolds and goblins use the usually very hostile knocks as farming animals. Taming a knock is dangerous and only practiced by the evasive and small races of Eastern Corsith.   Knockjockeys. Gnomes make a sport out of mounting knocks in the vast fields of unpopulated areas and see how long they can hold on before being thrown off. This is also common with dwarven children but adult dwarves are too tall to mount the small knocks comfortably.

    Architecture

Corsith’s buildings are mostly made of stone and metal reinforcements. The homes are fairly spacious and often house two to three small families. The Lava Pit settlements are wall-mounted and made of wood so that they’re lighter, only secured by nets above the lava pits and few support beams.
Cities in general are rather large despite not having many buildings. Krupin, however, has a very dense population and lots of warehouses.
As for infrastructure, the country has many well-traveled trading routes everywhere, ranging from small pathways through meadows to wide, cobbled main routes across hills and tundras, all leading to Corsith’s trading capital Li’rak in the East.   Ragnien’s homes are more primitive, made out of sticks and clay arranged to a lot of small villages all over the place. The Caves have small stone huts and the people living in the mountains mostly live in the local caves to keep their houses from potentially falling into the mountain ranges’ crevices.   While Ragnien does not have many trading routes, its inhabitants build cobbled streets and still have some old main roads left over from before the goblin riots.

    Culinary Specialities

The cooks of Corsith are known for their various excellent vegetable tarts, as well as their ability to turn all kinds of meat into a delicious dish.   Knock Rock Stew. Some brave hunters take on knocks with precise arrow shots, therefore being able to harvest their natural armor and gray meat which, when cooked, often looks like stone and is best served with a side dish of steamed carrots.   Goldcookies. These delicious, soft cookies are filled with honey from the local bees and are common to put in gifts or bring home from a trip to Corsith as a snack for friends and family, as the honey preserves the cookies for long without going bad.   Green Velvet Bread. For centuries, dwarves have been mixing mountain funghi into their bread, making it turn a bright green color. While it looks like mold to many, they also regard it as being one of the most delicious treats they have ever tasted.
