Vilaba
Vilaba is a logging village in the north of Scytharia, lying on the west side of the Bjornheim Range, and southeast of Geirsa.
Demographics
Vilaba's population consists of around 30 bearfolk and less than 80 humans, who are in turn almost entirely ethnically Scytharian. One dwarven woman is a permanent resident, and a Khal'res ranger is known to operate in the area.
Government
While the senior shaman of the Urskan tribe is generally considered the de facto leader, no laws compel obedience to them. Their leadership is respected only as long as their counsel is still believed to be wise.
Defences
Like most Scytharian settlements, Villaba is surrounded by a wooden palisade. The outside surfaces of the walls bristle with a forest of sharpened stakes and the occasional metal blade to discourage both climbers and more brute force methods of breaching.
Industry & Trade
Vilaba is sustained by logging. The shaman's apprentices help woodcutters select trees for harvest, and the shaman uses their primal magic to spread seedlings and enhance the growth of remaining trees. The timber is gathered on sledges that are dragged by Urskan warriors, who then ride them like sleds during the downhill parts of the trip to Geirsa, using their immense strength to steer as they go.
Geography
Vilaba is built around a large protuberance of rock, with a freshwater spring arcing from a cleft in one of its lower faces. This protuberance in turn juts from a small relatively flat place in a narrow band of hilly plateau along a ridgeline formed by the Bjornheim Range. Forests cover the upward slope to the east of the town. During the day, a sharp-eyed observer standing on Vilaba's palisade could just barely make out White Feather Fjord down and to the west.
Climate
Villaba shares the same eternally frozen climate as the rest of Scytharia.
Natural Resources
The freshwater spring on the east end of town and lumber from the trees in the forest are the primary resources that allow Vilaba to exist. Game, birds, berries and mushrooms from the forest are a primary food source.
