Journal 41: The Stork's Festival

Hot on the trails of a new church to Diviath, the party finds a quaint little town in the thralls of one of many summer festivals

Created by Wren for the Valdorin campaign

General Summary

Wren realizes he regains his spells after a nap. He is now all-powerful! His only weakness is his own stupidity! [Recap: Yelren is a Firbolg again. He wants to help us, and keep the fiery breach in the universe from opening again.]   Yelren can help Rael to learn more about nature. It will take several days; Wren and Harvey decide to help Shynt to gain some control of his magics in the meantime. It doesn't help. It also seems like a bad idea to cast fire-based spells near a fire rift. When we're ready to go, Yelren offers to cast Cloudform on us, or 'port us to a tree.   Before we leave, Wren first Banishes Sirius back home. Sirius mentions he lives near the Endless Bog in the Feywild. Also, we should not ask jokes of wishing wells. Yelren will continue to find a way to keep the fire rift closed. There is a creature on the other side, in the elemental plane of fire, that wants to break out.   Wren asks three questions in a communion with Ichtaca, the Rainbow Serpent:
  • Ulfgar, can we trust him (his messages)? -> Yes
  • Will Morbelgion's ritual make it impossible to stop him? -> No
  • Can we contact Diviath in Littlebrook? -> Unsure
  • Jean Pierre's paragraph is gone from the book. A new paragraph about Keliope Helene appeared.   We use Yelren's Cloudform spell to quickly travel north. Even our horses are mistified, and we only lose one during travel. We now have two (real) horses left. After a little while we find Littlebrook! They are currently celebrating the Stork's festival. We party! Mayor Beld is the authority in town. We find out that Keliope is a tiefling blacksmith that lives in the town. Some people think that she is crazy. The mayor is confused; he doesn't know her that well and has known her all his life. Suspicious. Old man Pete lives with Keliope, he is around 50 years old. We decide to hit the blacksmith the next day.   [Keliope not new/old, living/dead, in danger, Littlebrook, invisible]   [Pac-man like sign on figures, clock tower?]   After a little talk, we find out that Diviath appeared in Keliope's dreams, to help her with her child, although in the end it did not matter. Boy is Arylld, now dead. Diviath is 'around'; it's a feeling. She arrived a month ago. Next door is a shrine to Divath. There is an aura of Abjuration around Keliope, although she doesn't really know. It seems to block magic. She doesn't know much about the whole thing; she just does what she thinks Diviath wants / tells her. Old man Pete tells us Keliope would have fallen under a dark force like her sisters, if Diviath didn't save her. Pete is rather vague about the whole thing; he is from before Diviath / Tul Innuth. He could see the will of the gods, but not anymore. He and Keliope were protected by Diviath; Morbelgion took the rest. Pete doesn't know if he was a god. He does remember great power and vision from before. He was gone a long time.   Keliope has 7 sisters, her power is anti-magic. Her sisters are machination of an evil power. We (try to) pray all day & fall asleep in the shrine. When we wake up, we have a dream/vision of Diviath. He wants to give us a boon... in style. MORTAL COMBAT, WINNER TAKES IT ALL!
