Vollert d'Yvres

Prince of Lyssonne, Duke of Yvres

Duke of Yvres and recently married prince consort of Queen Iliza de Lyssonne. As Iliza brought with her her young son Henri from her previous marriage, so too did Vollert bring with him his only son Gerard. Vollert leads the armies of Lyssonne in their most recent offense against the Norsca, with the aim of taking The Spine from them for good. However, unhappy with an early surrender and the promise of a temporary ceasefire, Vollert drove his forces northward determined to burn Wolfsbane to the ground and end the Norscan incursions for good.

Personal history

Born the first son of then Duke of Yvres, Vollert d'Yvres has grown to be a remarkable man. He married young and had his first child by the age of 19 that he named Gerard. His first wife Genevieve Orlay was of a crumbling noble house whose lands were vast but their coffers empty. Vollert was said to fiercely love his wife and for her, Vollert spent a not insignificant amount of his personal fortune on rebuilding House Orlay lands. Such charitable actions are far from the norm in the Duchy of Yvres, in which the class system is deeply entrenched and competitive. This proved to have a knock on effect of boosting the farming economy of the area southeast of Yvres and earned him both respect and popularity amongst his people.   Unfortunately, in the winter of 885 a pox swept through the city, claiming many lives, Vollert's father amongst them. Now crowned Duke of Yvres, Vollert oversaw a period of prosperity for Yvres, though for him it was a time of tragedy. In the autumn of 886 his mother passed away. Two years later, in June of 888, his wife too passed away. It is said that this was too much for the young Duke and he retreated from public life for a time, leaving his younger brother as interim governor. When Vollert returned he was a changed man. The next few years of Vollert's life are rather a mystery for the reasonings or personal life for the man but there are some events worthy of note. His late wife's lands became property of house Yvres despite that being antithetical to the customs of noble houses in Yvres, a vicious crackdown on illegal activities in the city of Yvres and the surrounding lands, including the introduction of the Witchhunter inquisition from Sollen, increased military preparedness including the renewal of crumbling knights chapter houses, paid for by increased taxation on the lower classes. The last act from behind closed doors was his formation of the Knights Grievance, which some believed was his way of throwing off his grief, compartmentalising it.   In 892 Vollert returned to public life and slowly regained the person he used to be, a charming and influential man, though he wears nearly all black rather than the classically white regalia of Yvres for the mourning of those he lost.
