  • Akahiro Shin
    Ambitious, clever, and perpetually stoned, Akahiro has made his mark buying and selling information. As he likes to say, "If it happened, I want to know about it." On the side, he sells dreamsmoke to those who wish to be free of the Iron Emperor's magical influence, though he does so only for profit, unlike other criminal/freedom fighters.
  • Guo Zhou
    Guo Zhou is the shrewd and pragmatic warlord of the Sekae prefecture located at the outer boundary of the Iron Empire. As a leader he has historically adopted only those laws and regulations of the Empire that make sense to him, failing to acknowledge and enforce those that he views as a hindrance to his rule and the peace and prosperity of Sekae. Guo openly accepts adventurers and users of magic that would otherwise be shunned in other parts of the empire, a position that was strengthened by the commandeering of his garrison of trained samurai by the Iron Empire.
  • Pallabar Oomtrowl
    Pallabar Oomtrowl is an ambitious, unconventional artificer. With his creations he literally means to change the world. His first major success was creating the lifts that brought prosperity to Roshane and the attention of the Iron Emperor. He is endlessly fascinated with the once-thought extinct [i]warforged[/i] race, but his meeting Onimaru has inspired him to continue his journey and he means to accompany Oni wherever he goes.
  • Ping Softfoot
    A reclusive and taciturn halfling ranger, he spends much of his time combing the savanna for threats against the village of Sekae. He is solitary, a man of few gruff words. His face is often dusted with ash from the fires he navigates among the tall grasses.
  • Servitude
    The blue-skinned tiefling emissary of the Iron Emperor. As her name suggests she is strongly loyal to the Empire -- and the power -- that comes with her position. She is a true diplomat, able to gain the trust of most anyone with whom she speaks.
  • Sharpy the Sword
    Kind-hearted, innocent, traumatized, Sharpy the Sword was imbued with sentience by an tricksy hag who raised him into thinking that he was an instrument of healing. When a local villager asked for a favor from the hag, to save his dying grandmother, she gave him Sharpy and told him that the sword had magical healing properties. All he had to do was strike his grandmother with the blade and "her suffering would end." Her suffering did end when she bled out; Sharpy was traumatized and is now afraid of blood and abhors violence.

As they travel, they discuss the goals of their quest: to find and destroy the Geisha's supply of dreamsmoke, the find and destroy the laboratory of the Geisha's artificer, and to steal the Geisha's so-called Scroll of Secrets.
