Personal history

Katherine got pregnant at 16 when she and her boyfriend "did it" for the first time. Though he was 18, he promptly moved out of state when he found out Katherine was pregnant. Her mother helped her through the pregnancy and the difficulties of being a first-time mother at 16, even after Katherine dropped out. Her dad was never around during Katherine's own childhood, and it broke her mom's heart to see it happening to her child, too. Katherine met an older guy who promised to stick around and help her raise her kid, and he did stick around- until she got pregnant with another kid at 18. He slowly started making more and more excuses to be gone, until one day he never came back. Her oldest child, Eric, is 6, and her youngest, Elijah, is 4. Now she works 12-hour night shifts at a gas station during the week to support her family, and only sleeps while they are at school so she can pick them up and spend time with them when they come home.

Katherine still hasn't graduated from highschool.

Katherine works at a gas station near her house and hates her job, but she tolerates it for her kids.

Motivation

Katherine's motivation for staying alive is her children. She never figured out her goals when she was younger, so she feels stuck in the life she has now, and like she can't do anything more than try and be their mom.
