Personal history
Madeline was born to the wealthy and reclusive Morrissy family. The Morrissy family was so reclusive because they had a secret: they were a family of vampires. Madeline's mother was a very determined elven merchant named Rosalind who came to the Morrissy estate with the intention of making her fortune working with the family. Rosalind was a sheer force of will and not only managed to start and then lead the Morrissy trade empire, but also married one of the younger sons of the family, Lysander. Madeline, a half-vampire or dhampir, was born from this union. Madeline was not the first dhampir to be born into the Morrissy family as they are, comparatively speaking, a very welcoming vampire clan.
Madeline was a very inquisitive child and loved to learn about the outside world she never got to see. She also excelled at her astronomy lessons and loved the stars, the closest she could get to the sun while living amongst full-blooded vampires. Madeline's intense curiosity about the outside world and the people living in it only grew as she did. Around her 300th birthday Madeline discovered what an anthropologist was and decided that that was what she would be, come hell or high water. It was simple enough for Madeline to get her mother on her side, as she had once travelled the world before settling down. With Rosalind on her side it was not long before the rest of the family was steamrolled into letting Madeline go.
Once she was out in the world and beginning her work as an anthropologist Madeline discovered that learning about other, non-vampire peoples was every bit as interesting as she had hoped. There was however, one major issue that took several years for Madeline to get a successful handle on. While dhampir's do not require blood to survive the way vampires do, they still have powerful craving for it. Madeline didn't really want to have to eat her research subjects. Eventually she found that, while she could not stop the cravings, she could transfer the focus of those cravings onto something else. In Madeline's case, coffee.
Madeline now travels the world learning about the people and cultures therein so that she may one day publish a series of books aimed at educating other vampires and dhampirs about the world.
