When Phil was about to get married, he left for several months to seek out the Fey. They granted him his wish, the form he wanted (with several artistic liberties) in exchange for his ability to admit he's in the wrong. When he returned, his fiancee, Karin, had almost left him, but not quite.
 
Phil had two kids, his daughter Parastu, and then his son Shapour. Shortly after Shapour's death, a strange human woman came across their lands. She was an artificer from the city of Tol'Toma, and she never gave her name. Phil found he had a knack, and a thirst for artificing, and learned as much as he could from her in the short time she stayed with his family. After she left, Phil was forced to learn from the notes she left behind, and by himself.
 
Once Phil started throwing himself into artificing, he began to neglect his family. He was unable to tell them he knew he was wrong, and his wife divorced him for this. On his own, he turned to travelling and selling his basic inventions wherever he found himself.
 
Phil knows his inventions are trash, but is forced to tell people about how great they are. This leads to him getting run out of cites, and later wanted in countries for scamming people, as well as for potentially stealing the secrets of Tol'Toma's artificers. Once he realized that Tol'Toma was coming after him he started leaning more into the scamming aspect to throw them off.
 
His goal is to get into Tol'Toma so he can continue his learning of artificing, stop being chased by their enforcement, and send home better money to his kids. Recently he's also been sending letters to an Artificer who lives inside the city to learn more about the craft. The Artificer simply goes by 'R'. These letters are infrequently sent but seem to always find their way to the right person, whether it be to Phil or to R. The letters are also coded so that only someone knowing how to decipher it could understand it. Phil found one of these letters in the notes left behind by the unknown woman, and it took him months to decipher what it truly meant. From there, he began sending his letters.
