First Mission for the Guild

Dear Diary,
Working in the local hospital in Prism on my own is a reliable way to earn a living, but it earns neither the prestige nor the quantity of funding that would permit our group to successfully establish our tower as a beacon of guiding light for the Rays of this world. With being a good steward of the people here as the requirement of our persisting in this place, it is only right and just that we should strive to the best of our ability to fulfil that charge. And that, unfortunately, means accepting and completing tasks for the Adventurer's Guild.
Once we get back from this mission I'll be able to open an account with the Guild's bank to be able to keep my personal income safely stored. That's a very useful member benefit. I'll definitely be doing that.

We were hired to ride to the aid of a new settlement of gnomes who were reportedly being attacked by duergar. Once again, these gnomes are little like the secretive and frankly strange gnomes at home. The one I travel with is downright gregarious, greeting the animals we meet as we travel. He even told a beautiful tale at the campfire of the star-crossed lovers, Gnomio and Juliet, and their tragic romance that change the fate of their feuding families. (Next thing you know someone will be telling me that in this place, halflings don't worship mysterious devils and eldritch horrors of the deep. This is such an odd world.) On the road to the settlement we were also beset by bandits.
And thankfully, it was not a fight to the horrible death for all of them.
We are now travelling with two prisoners, and one is but a young man. We will have to be careful to ascertain their safety while in our care. It would not do to permit people to die on the cusp of making better life choices.
To our great surprise, it seems that the gnomish settlement had actually not been attacked by duergar. Nor had they actually sent the request for this mission from the Guild. We don't yet know what happened here, but we do know that there is a pestilence of undead who infect those they attack with their cursed magics. Holy Almada has given me Her blessings to remove the contagion, but I am not able to remove the magical blight upon those infected.
While no longer contagious, they are still cursed and may yet succumb to the horrors that befell their neighbors. It appears that most of the new settlement has been slain, and we have yet to identify the monsters responsible. We do know, however, that their cursed affliction can be caught by one who is already undead himself. That horrid little goblin necromancer has caught the curse. What fates yet await for us in this cursed town? I fear there is no more time for the telling. We must rid this foul threat from the land.
