Malri is cagey about her history. She says that she immigrated from Aerenal just before hostilities broke out during the Last War. She had previously lived as a socialite on the island and had grown bored with her life. She decided to make things interesting and throw her considerable social talents into the great game, intelligence. She worked between nations and acted as an information broker to the governments of Breland, Thrane and Karrnath. She says that she enjoyed her work, and she eventually settled in Sharn. Sharn was a quiet enough place to wait out the end of the war. After the Mourning, she sensed a renewed opportunity to indulge her espionage desires. She formed the Group, a band of professionals from across Khorvaire who could accomplish any mission that she needed. She has retained her Group since 995 YK.
