Rose was the ghost of an innocent 10 year old girl. She was curious about the world outside of the manor as her parents never let her wander very far.Her and her brother Thorn died of starvation almost 400 years ago after their insane parents locked them in the attic and forgot about them. They were too young and innocent to understand that their parents were guilty of heinous crimes. Their parents told them stories about a monster in the basement to keep the children from going down to the dungeon level. The “terrible howls” they heard were actually the screams of the cult’s victims.
It was then that Thiala Galanodel came to the Village of Barovia and with the help of her companions clensed Durst Manor of its curse. Her soul was freed but blocked from moving on from Barovia. With no one else to turn to she adopted Thiala as a sort of surrogate parent. Thiala was kind and let Rose posses her body so that she could see the outside world. The days passed and Thiala gained the dark powers of Keres which allowed her to resurrect Rose, becoming Rose's new mother.
During Rose's resurrection, Keres imbued her with some of the same dark powers as her new mother, a living shadow and the ability to hear the whispers and voices of the dead. Keres also granted her the ability to transform into a ghost along with the ability and knowledge of spellcasting. The process also aged roses body to maturity.

Knowledge of Keres. When you make an ability check that uses a skill, you can roll a d6 immediately after seeing the number on the d20 and add the number on the d6 to the check. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Shadow Strike. When you make a melee attack roll, you can increase your reach for that attack by 10 feet. Your shadow stretches and delivers the attack as if it were you. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Ominous Will. Immediately after you make an attack roll, ability check, or a saving throw and roll a 1 on the d20, your shadow exerts a will of its own and might assist or hider you or those around you. The next time a creature within 30 feet you can see makes an a attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, roll a d4. If the number is odd, reduce the total by the number rolled. If the number is even, increase the total by the number rolled. Once this effect occurs it can't happen again until you finish a long rest.
Voices from Beyond. Immediately after you make an attack roll, ability check, or a saving throw and roll a 1 on the d20, the haunting voices grow too loud to ignore. Roll on the Voices from Beyond table to determine the effect of these voices. Once one of these effects occurs, none of these haunting voices manifest again until you finish a short or long rest.
Involuntary Change. When you step into areas protected by a hallow spell, magic circle, or other protected areas (except those you cast yourself) or when you take radiant damage. At the start of your next turn you must succeed on a DC 15 Charisma saving throw or use your action to cast alter self as described in the Transformation trait, even if you have already used it.
*Incorporeal Movement Rose can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. She takes 5 (1d10) force damage if she ends her turn inside an object.
Spellcasting. Rose's spell casting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 17, +9 to hit with spell attacks).
Cantrips Known: 4+2; Spells Known: 6
Spell Slots: 4/3/2
Potent Cantrips. Rose can add her spellcasting modifier to the damage she deals with any cantrip.
REACTIONS
Sudden Cacophony. When you are hit by an attack roll, you can use your reaction to channel your haunting spirits, letting their voices howl through you. If the attacker isn't deafened, add your proficiency bonus to your AC against the attack, potentially causing it to miss. Once this trait causes an attack to miss, you can't use the trait again until you finish a long rest.
ACTIONS
Withering Touch. Melee Weapon Attack: +9, Reach 15 ft. one target, Hit: 14 (4d6+5) necrotic damage.
Transformation (Ghost Form). You can cast the alter-self spell to appear in her Ghost form. When you do so you gain the effects of that spell's Change Appearance option and cannot end it to gain the benefits of a different option. Casting alter-self in this way requires no spell slot and must finish a long rest before you can cast it this way again. Your spellcasting ability for this spell is Charisma. If you have 2nd level or higher spell slots, you can cast this spell with them.
When you cast alter self with this feature, some cosmetic aspect of your second form remains after the spell ends. This visibly marks you unless you actively hide or disguise it. The mark fades after you finish a long rest.
*Etherealness. Rose enters the Ethereal Plane from the Material Plane, or vice versa. It is visible on the Material Plane while it is in the Border Ethereal, and vice versa, yet it can't affect or be affected by anything on the other plane.
*Possession. One humanoid that Rose can see within 5 ft. must succeed on a DC 15 Charisma saving throw or be possessed by Rose; Rose then disappears, and the target is incapacitated and loses control of its body. Rose now controls the body but doesn't deprive the target of awareness. Rose can't be targeted by any attack, spell, or other effect, except ones that turn undead, and it retains its alignment, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma, and immunity to being charmed and frightened. She otherwise uses the possessed target's statistics, but doesn't gain access to the target's knowledge, class features, or proficiencies. The possession lasts until the body drops to 0 hit points, Rose ends it as a bonus action, or is turned or forced out by an effect like the dispel evil and good spell. When the possession ends, Rose reappears in an unoccupied space within 5 ft. of the body. The target is immune to this ghost's Possession for 24 hours after succeeding on the saving throw or after the possession ends.
