I find history in the dirt at my feet, but I can only make history with the sharp of my blade or the silver of my tongue.— Arlinn Revane
A small Elven woman switches deftly from the longbow in her hands to the two Elven longswords on her back. The motion is fluid, a grace in battle that is only seen in the fair races. The cobalt color of the tattoos on her face is striking against the dark background of her hair, but their color and shape mark her as what she is, a member of the Clan Revane.
The intricate designs are done through the aid of magic, usually by a tribal elder or the matriarch. Arlinn Revane was alone in the world and did not have those people to look to. In a world centuries after the Eldritch War, she was the only one remaining to carry the name Revane and the title of Forestwalker that often came with it.
Born in Faelon, the ancient home of her clan, Arlinn was the only daughter of the then matriarch, Nissa Revane. Arlinn was destined to follow in her family's footsteps and become a matriarch of The Outlands, but the tragedy before the Calamity forever altered her path.
As a young child, her village was attacked, causing her mother to force her to flee. Arlinn fled into the woods around Faelon, quickly finding herself in the familiar space of the Ancient Hunting Grounds. She hid in a cave on the hunting grounds, left alone for hours to explore as she kept silent.
Although unsure of what or who killed her family when she eventually returned to Faelon, she was sure that archaeology and its mystique was where her interest lay after finding The Ranger Gem, an item that seemed to be an ancient relic of her clan. Since then, she has honed her skills in combat through hours of training and expanded her knowledge in the academic field through studies at the Elven archives, the Unending Scroll.
Over the course of her few years, Arlinn established herself as a well-known archaeologist, traveling the realms in search of lost Elven treasures that were taken during the Eldritch War and its aftermath. She travels quickly, sometimes finding companions to help along the way.
Her latest adventure found her joining the Dagger Guild after being asked to by someone that she had met during her travels.
Appearance
Physical Description
Arlinn is average size for an elf, having and very lean and lithe body. She is very rarely ill, continuously working to stay fit and healthy. She uses her light body and her graceful steps to her advantage while hunting.
Body Features
She has very fair skin, often tanned by the sun from her time outdoors. Her hair is normally a dark mahogany brown shade but lightens with the summer. Arlinn's most recognizable feature is the swirling mass of cobalt tribal tattoos that cover most of the body. Those on her arms and face are the most striking, darker in color than most of the others on her body.
Facial Features
Arlinn's face is very petite. Her eyes are a bright green that are accentuated by the deep color of the tattoos on her face. She often uses her long hair to frame her face and accentuate the shape and colors of her eyes and tattoos.
Identifying Characteristics
Her most identifying feature is the tribal tattoos that cross her body. She is one, if not the only one, that wears the blue tattoos of the Revane clan. In this way, these tattoos identify her in a number of ways.
Physical quirks
She is right-handed and often walks with the grace of a wolf on the prowl. Her steps are light and measured, very calculated in their placement.
Apparel & Accessories
She tends to wear clothes of various earthen tones. Most of them are made of soft leather that is tooled. Beyond that, she wears very little jewelry, with those few pieces that she wears being family heirlooms.
Specialized Equipment
Her bow and her quiver are inlaid with a blue stone that matches the tattoos on her body. Her quiver specifically is very ornate, far from the simplicity of the quivers that most Outlanders use. Her dual Elven longswords are also tooled with intricate designs and the hilts are wrapped in a dyed leather to match the blue of her bow and quiver.
Special abilities
Arlinn has little in the way of special abilities such as magic. She has an uncanny knowledge of the history and cultures of various places as well as an extremely in-depth knowledge of map-making.
Mentality
Personal history
Arlinn spent her earliest years in Faelon, the ancestral home of the Revane clan. When the clan was killed during the Eldritch War, her time hiding in the Ancient Hunting Grounds of her people eventually led her to the Unending Scroll, where she became educated in map-making, history, and other scholarly areas. After finishing her education in her specialty of archaeology, Arlinn travels the world, hoping to return stolen Elven artifacts to their home.
Education
Most of her academic training came from spending time at the Elven archives, the Unending Scroll. There she learned about history and the world, as well as about archaeology and anthropology. As for combat training, her early teachings with a bow came from her mother and others in Faelon. Once Faelon was destroyed and she moved on, she continued learning with a bow as well as becoming proficient in a large variety of other weapons. Her favorite weapons other than an Elven longbow are two Elven longswords.
Arlinn is also well versed in mapmaking, which she learned from one of the elves that worked at the Unending Scroll. She utilizes various magic items and techniques to help with the map-making, although she can only use ranger magic herself.
Employment
Since finding her way to the Elven capital after the destruction of her village, Arlinn has been employed by the Unending Scroll in a variety of occupations. Currently, she is employed as a sort of freelance archaeologist, but she often picks up other odd jobs during her travels.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Some of her greatest accomplishments come from how adept she is with weapons. She prides herself on the agility and precision with which she can wield a variety of weapons. That being said, she often tells of her map-making as one of her greatest accomplishments as it takes finesse and patience that fighting does not have.
While not an accomplishment per se, she is greatly proud of the fact that others in the Outlands felt it right to give her the title of Forestwalker that her mother had. It is not a title given lightly, and she was deeply honored that she would be blessed with the same name and respect as her mother.
Failures & Embarrassments
While Outlanders are known more for their weapons skills and their perchance for ranger magic, one of Arlinn's greatest embarrassments is that she has no aptitude for regular magic. After spending so long with those her age at the Unending Scroll, she saw it as an area that she was lacking in, even though many of the other elves could not use ranger magic as she could. It is still a point of embarrassment for her and she tries to avoid discussion about it as much as possible.
Mental Trauma
While Arlinn argues that there is no remaining mental trauma or anything from the destruction of her family and home, she has one odd tendency. She can only enter a trance in complete darkness. It may be a condition that came about due to her time hiding in the cave in the Ancient Hunting Grounds, but she swears there is nothing wrong with her. She is also extremely paranoid about traps when traveling through enclosed spaces.
Intellectual Characteristics
Arlinn is fluent in three languages but often chooses not to use the ones she knows. She does not consider herself a linguist or musical, even though she enjoys singing and humming from time to time. She prefers to be known as a historian with great spatial awareness due to her map-making abilities. She soaks up information about the history and culture of a place rather quickly and is known to bore her companions with talks of great events from the past.
Morality & Philosophy
Elven society can be strict in some senses, but Arlinn often chooses to make her own path. She attempts to follow the rules as much as possible, but she is not against breaking the rules if the situation requires it. She holds dear to her belief that those that have passed on from this world and their belongings deserve to be treated with dignity, so she often finds herself breaking rules to make sure that exactly that happens.
Known Languages
Arlinn is fluent in Common, Elvish, and Dwarvish. She knows a few phrases in other languages, such as Sylvan and Minotaur, due to her travels, but she often prefers to carry out her dealings in Common, to make others think she doesn't speak other languages.
Personality
Motivation
Arlinn's greatest motivation is the return of stolen relics to their homes, as well as giving these relics and other historical artifacts and their creators the respect that they deserve. Secretly, she uses her job as an archaeologist and adventurer to find out more about her clan, as she was just a small child when it was destroyed. She wishes to bring great praise and respect back to the clan Revane.
Savvies & Ineptitudes
Arlinn is fantastic at reading and creating maps, making maps with an impressive level of detail. She excels at fighting with various weapons and using various types of ranger magic. Unfortunately, she struggles with when knowing to temper her hot-headed attitude and allowing others to take the lead.
Likes & Dislikes
In some cases, she prefers animals over people, but she loves telling stories about history more. She's forward with her likes, finding those that have similar likes for traveling companions.
Arlinn has an extreme dislike for bullies and those that act like they are better than those around them.
Virtues & Personality perks
Arlinn is patient due to her years in the Outlands, but when the moment arises, she is quick to act and make decisions. She is decisive, preferring to be more of a leader and less of a follower. She tends to blaze her own path instead of following what someone else has already done.
Vices & Personality flaws
Her greatest flaw is her inability to sleep except in complete darkness. It makes it extremely hard for her to sleep in many instances and leaves her going days with little to no sleep. She also is paranoid about traps when entering dungeons and will verbally tear apart those that believe there is no need to be cautious in those situations.
Personality Quirks
She has very few ticks and quicks but her most prominent one is to go completely still and silent when she becomes nervous. Her stillness is unsettling to those who see it happen.
Hygiene
Arlinn is very clean as hunting often requires it so as not to draw in other animals. Her house, or room, that she resides in is kept immaculate, and she prefers to keep herself and her equipment the same way.

Religious Views
Arlinn has the religious views of much of the Outlands. Outlanders often pray to the goddess of the hunt for safe and profitable hunts. Arlinn often prays before a battle for safety, confidence, and grace in her strikes and throughout the battle.
Social Aptitude
She is very charismatic but tries not to dominate the room with her personality. She is confident in her skills and often shows it outwardly. Hobbies & Pets
While Arlinn doesn't have any pets, she does collect a variety of animal mounts that she treats as nearly family members. She names and cares for a variety of animals and even speaks to those animals that are not hers.
Arlinn is often busy with her work so she has turned map-making into one of her hobbies. She creates extremely detailed maps but also likes drawing small images to denote places on the map instead of just marking a point.
Speech
Her voice is often calm and controlled, soft in nature and very clear. She picks up on the dialects and specific phrases of a culture and tends to blend in on her travels when she can.
