Keeping my Promise

by Renaldine

I am glad the group decided to keep my promise with me. Mal, Freya, Zugg Zugg and I decided to retrieve Seraphim's body. Overall, the challenge was not all that difficult. Lately, I have noticed I have been in Melee a lot more. Toe to toe fighting. While in town, I think I will spend more time in the training ring to build my strength and skill. If I am to be a front liner, I will have to beef up my swing and use better armor.

We ran into some difficulty with traps and locks. Not having a specialist for these obstacles slowed us down considerably. Freya substituted admirably, but it was still hit and miss and that traps inflicted moderate harm. At first these hurdles might have stumped us, then I remember a I had a scroll of Locate Object, which led us right to Seraphim's body.

The battle for Seraphim was not all that hard. We defeated the sorcerer fairly easy. It did cost us some healing pots. We found some spikes with odd writing. One gold, one brass and one iron. This is the second set of these we have found. Castle Drakenhoff seems to be the center of some demonic, organized evil plan. Further investigation is required. I now have two sets of these spikes. We also round instructions with an image of a body, and spikes inserted. The directions were in a language none of us recognized. I will have to research this when we get back in town.

Seraphim rewarded us with information. We all got to ask any question. Mine was the question that has been burning my soul since my rebirth. My memories of my previous life. Will I ever regain them. Seraphim told me that when that time comes, the issue may not be important to me any longer. Will I grow out of this doubt? Is my path with Kelemvor the healing necessary for this vacant pain? I cannot imagine me growing beyond this emptiness. Seraphim's answer and Kelemvor's path seems to have cleared my path more then I have realized.

After Seraphim blessed us and returned to her life, we decided to clear the level. There was a glowing red pit in the room where they kept Seraphim's body, the path behind us had yet to be cleared. We unlocked the doors in the caverns path and then proceeded to enter the first room. A magical trap that discharged magic missiles weakened us prior to entry. A demonic beast was in the room with a darkness spell. I was blinded and my shield did not light the way. I decided to use my Spirit Guardians as a damage shield. The beast was strong, resisting much of our magic. The Magic Missiles weakened me significantly, and the beast lashed out at me many times. I was on my last leg, bloodied, battered. The darkness seemed to not effect Mal. He charged forward and devastated the beast with his attacks. He literally saved my life. I would not have survived another onslaught from the beast.

After the battle, Mal found a note. Apparently, they were experimenting on Seraphim to remove her wings. I wonder if the sorcerer was trying to transplant them. There were numerous skeletons in cages that seemed to have been there for centuries. Imagine having your soul rended from your physical form while some evil performed experiments on your physical remains. My admiration of Seraphim is beyond measure. A being for such grace, beauty, bravery. I hope to achieve what she represents someday.

On return, we must update that city on the evil brewing in Castle Drakenhoff. What ever it is, it seems to be more active since the war. The pit in the ground seemed ominous. I must continue with this quest line. I feel this is where Kelemvor is guiding me.........
