The Flesheaters

by Renaldine

The little town of White Sparrow has a lot of problems. The town leadership has put much on the shoulders of their law enforcement officer. She seems weary of all the issues. While in town, a half folk charged into town panic'd. Apparently his farm was under attack.

I was assembled with Rory again. His familiarity with me is irritating. Obviously he knew me in my previous life. How do I explain what I do not understand to someone so dimwitted, he talks to a plate and spoon? Also Kara and Sindri are both with us. Kara is an artificer and Sindri I believe is a mage.

We head to a farm where some form of attack is occurring. I suspect undead, but I am in error. They are lizardfolk and they are eating humanoids. A short battle occurs and we win quite easily. While investigating the bodies we find a logo on all the lizardfolk. A three fingered claw. We ask around if anyone has seen this before.

The townsfolk get irritated and aggressive towards on individual. He apparently trades with many of the Lizardfolk tribes int he area. The town believes he is behind this. I ask him what he knows, but he has not seen the symbol before. I am suspicious, but my insight tells me he isnt lying. I ask if he can escort us to a local tribe nearby. He agrees

We arrive on the outskirts of a swampy area. We are asked to wait for introductions. We abide by the request. He returns with the tribal elders. They are cooperative, even friendly. Through diplomatic discussion, we find that the symbol is of an old evil sect from 100's of years ago. There was a tribal war where many of the area tribes wiped out this one group called the Flesheaters. They were a ritualistic tribe that sacrificed humanoids to evil Gods. These Gods are thought dead. Part of their ritual is the devouring of their victims.

The tribal leaders ask and even offer a reward if we can stamp out the insurgence. I barter in return a peaceful coexistence with the neighboring humanoids. The leaders respond they already live in this existence. I explain uprisings like this can create prejudice among races, and something from them separating them from the Flesheaters would go a long way. They create a parchment of peace for me to take to White Sparrow.

We agree to take on this task and head to where the previous center of evil was. Upon arrival, I spot an ambush. We take them down but spend resources. A rest is required. Unfortunately, a giant crocodile interrupts the rest. This was a hard fight. The thing was larger then the four of us put together! Finally, we defeat the beast and finish our rest.

We find the temple, an evil looking skull in the middle of the swamp. Bodies of lizardfolk are strewn about. We enter through the mouth being ever vigilant of traps. Inside a human and two ghouls are performing a ritual around a pile of lizardfolk bodies piled quite high. The battle is on.

I call upon the powers of Kelemvor and the ghouls flee in fear. My faith was strong and his judgment delivered. The mage somehow mind controlled Rory. This is not good. He alone could wipe us all out. Casting my Spiritual Weapon at the mage, it takes to fleeing next to Rory for protection. Kelemvors blessing be among us. I dispell the mind control and the Cult Leader just ran into a buzz saw.

We make quick work of the leader and follow up destroying the undead. Freeing the captured lizardfolk we assist them in interning the victims. Escorting them back to their village, we are thanked, and rewarded.

I hand the treaty to our guide and tell him, this will clear your name. He is thankful. We all return to White Sparrow and for once, the good news is spread through town. Not only did we eliminate and raze the cult, we negotiated a peace treaty with neighboring tribes.

I head to the praying circle and thank Kelemvor for his guidance and swift judgment. His support of me has been more then I could ever have imagined. The life I am living if fulfilling. I still wish I could find more about my previous lives. But as a wise angel told me before, that desire is dwindling.

I am finding looking forward has great rewards.......
