Broken Stems

We heard screaming from inside the Preda house, but thank the suns and stars that by the time we got back inside, Venrick and Lily had taken care of the mimic threat.

We bereathed a sigh of relief, only to hitch a breath one Thorek and I walked out into dusk and a veritable horde of undead.

So we returned inside, barricaded the door, and retreated to the second floor. Lily and Curie rooted through the rooms to find an answer while the rest of us held the top of the staircase, carefully.

The group found information we needed, from Preda's study on her undead connections. We reconvened at the summit of the stairs, and at Curie's idea used the wand of create pit to excavate our way out underneath the manor.

As soon as we all had made it out and under, a gigantic fist smashed through the door to the manor and splintered the mimic-piano.

His return

From the notes we recovered at the Preda homestead, it seems that Duncan has given Preda power of some sort -- and ordered our destruction. He and some cadre will arrive in Erta in spring.

Duncan's letter also speaks of guardians, more information on whom we found as well:

The Tree Bears and their mother, a spirit-bear. We have met them, and they protected us. Their home is north of Erta.

The Weaver, who sits west of Erta.

The Tribe of Many or Those of Many Faces. They hail south of Erta.

The Deep Green. This region is east of Erta, and we have the least amount of knowledge on this.

Hebaz and Verdant were also mentioned by name -- which means that, for now, they are our only allies.

Our return

We made to Erta past nightfall, and thank the suns that Hebaz was asleep in her unlocked library. We woke her, and discussed all that we had uncovered. She and Lily goaded each other, to spur a minor revolution against the upcoming Preda force.

And so we readied for the next half hour, while Lily and Hebaz each ran for reinforcements. We worried that by the end of the night, the rest of the council would no longer be alive. We were able to get to their chambers in the middle of the night, and Tamara agreed wholeheartedly. Brys also jumped to our defense, and we slew some of Preda's followers.
