Penned at the reflections of Thejon the Hollow
Temple to Demathoin, the Black Lord
We have embarked for the first time as a group. That cat, Tsewen (she says it as the common number 7) as she calls herself, has a good grasp on things I think. Zippi, the gnome magicker, tried to cheat me in a game of chance; I did not take the bait.
A courier sent us a letter, a small boy with a young spirit. Inside were three tasks at three locations:
- Temple of Dumathoin: . . . Varis Yaeldrin has a letter
- Grand Library of Rakai: . . seek Pingun Siffress – mention that Magic’s Bloom sent us
- Office (I presume): . . . . . . a local magistrate has a letter for us, containing more instructions
Our first stop was at the temple of the Black Lord, as I have heard him called – Dumathoin, the one who collects the dead in black carriages and seeks the glitter of gemstones (and without a shape of its own).
Dumathoin’s symbol is a red mountain with a red sunset behind it; a green emerald in front of the mountain symbolizes the Black Lord’s keenness for gemstones
It seems we are following up on the death of Varis Yaeldrin, a guildman who died two months prior. Quote: “Officer Wilhem reported to a disturbance off of The Sprint [main road in western Rakai]; victim was found dead with his neck cut open”.
What was left of Yaris’ things included a letter to the guild (and therefore to us), which contained a bronze housekey and a letter:
“There are those hunting us; they are seeking to remove us from the city. I am not sure why. The guild is oblivious to this – they write it off as others pursuing knowledge”
(Varis Yaeldrin)
According to Seven, the key probably goes to a rookery [apt] in the Sprint. The cat’ll take us after our investigation, which works perfectly fine. The gnome Zippy claims Varis had something to prove, perhaps with his skill at evocation magic.
I’ll pen more later; we’re off to the library soon and I don’t want to lose my way alone.
