Governor Nighthill wants us to find out what they are up against. HE asks us to bring a prisoner. A Dragon Claw, a Cultist, or a Mercenary. He says the mill must be saved or the village will fall. First we ran into some kobolds. They were weak and went down easily. Sometimes I start to feel guilty about killing other Kobolds, but then I remember what my own pack did to me. Someday, when I don't have to be afraid anymore, I'm going to go back and tell them that they aren't very nice.
Closer to the mill, we ran into some cultists and a mercenary. They're all dead now. So far we're not doing so well with the getting prisoners thing.
Just outside of the mill there was a Dragon Claw, an Ambush Drake, and some kobolds. The Claw and two kobolds must have been a little smarter than the others because they ran away. Then we saw a pretty lady taking a nap or something on the ground. Zachary said maybe she's hurt so I fed her that last feel better potion we had. There was a book on the ground too. A really big wooden book that looked like it was full of secrets. I told everyone it was mine and then I hid it so it would be safe until we could leave.
We heard a really big commotion and realized Harrow had gone into the mill alone. We went to the door as fast as we could. There were a bunch of cultists and guards ganging up on Harrow like little bitches. That Dragon Claw from before comes back and says something about Mistress Frualm. Harrow went down and I flew over to him and sat on his body to protect him. I told the bad guys to leave him the fuck alone and they did... but it didn't help. I felt the life leave him and I cried. His last words were to Harrow. He apologized to Eloi and said he'd see him soon. I know the two of them had something going on that they didn't talk to the rest of us about. When Eloi died the first time he said something about Valias and twins. He wanted Harrow to kill them. It's not a lot to go on, but I'm going to try to find them and deliver Eloi's message.
Some of the bad guys were dead, and a lot of them were trying to run away. I managed to knock out a cultist so we wouldn't fail that part of the mission. When all the bad guys were gone or dead, we pulled the prisoner and Harrow into the mill to wait for reinforcements. That pretty lady came too and said her name is Goodnight. I told her it's actually been a very bad night. Zachary found a feel better potion, but Goodnight took it away from him and put it in her coat. When the governors people arrived, I asked Dreadnaught to carry Harrow back to the keep, and I got my book.
At the keep I demanded to oversee a burial for Eloi and Harrow, but they said it couldn't happen right now because we were still under attack and it was dark outside. I would have just buried them myself because I don't need the light to see, but that book was calling to me. I just couldn't help it, I had to read it before I did anything else. Except, you know what? I didn't need to read it, because it read itself to me! I felt stronger after.
A Half-Dragon came into the yard with some prisoners and said we could have them back if one person, and one person only fought him, and if anyone else messed with the fight, the prisoners would die. I was willing to do it, but Zachary said he would on account of he wasn't even hurt at all. I was relieved because the half big guy looked really scary. Zachary did pretty good, but still got knocked out. The almost big guy attacked him one more time because he's a bully, but then he released the prisoners and left. Some medicine people stabilized Zachary and put him to bed.
I'm going to curl up on my book and sleep. In the morning, I have to make sure my friends get buried. Why did they both have to die? Is any of this really worth it anymore? Maybe I should go back to the carnival without continuing my quest. Everything wasn't scary there.
