Proficiency Training (Meta Note)

by Conrad Serif

Int (History): Conrad has always had a fondness for words. When he couldn't be satisfied by the meager books of the temple, he quickly found where he could acquire newspapers. He was and still is quite enamored at what can be learned from a newspaper.

Dragonchess Set: Dragonchess was the bridge between what children could understand and what the adults were concerned about. Many of the kids in the temple would practice so that they could play against the adults and get their praise and attention.

Light Armor, Medium Armor, Shields, Simple Weapons, Martial Weapons: As part of his early enrollment into the Karnathi military, he was enlisted in general arms training for citizens of no peerage. It was an initiative started by dropouts from the Rekkenmark Academy. Though they didn't have the skill or pedigree to enter the academy, they were certainly not lacking. Retired Veterans would take turns training this dropouts in the public courtyards of Korth, and many impoverished youth would sneak in. Enough so that the students were assigned troops of kids to train themselves. Conrad's captain had a partner who was minorly trained in arcane talents and taught the young gnome the basics of spellslinging, in which he excelled beyond the skills of his mentor rather quickly.

Str (Athletics): While not a particular specialty of his, his years of service trained him in the desperate manner where if he couldn't keep up, he'd end up dead.

Vehicles (Land): One of the members of his troop was a Cannith scion. When she came of age, her mark never manifested. She ran away to train in Rekkenmark and swore under the Karnathi banner. She would excitedly talk with Conrad about the many vehicles that were her family's specialty. In the one town leave that their troop received, she taught Conrad how to drive in the worse-for-wear car she fled home in.

Cha (Intimidation): His captain was tired of little Quill not sticking up for himself. Just before the fateful battle that ended his troop, his captain was proud to see that Conrad had developed enough bark to get his comrades to treat him right.

Wis (Insight): After awakening from his harrowing experience, Conrad felt more in tune with the words that people spoke around him. It took him months to stop getting headaches from the strange information and a little more than a year for the feeling to have meaning to him.

Wisdom and Charisma Saving Throws: Serving among the clergy of Atur, Conrad trained in meditation that gave him a grand sense of where he stands in the world as well as his place in it.
