Truthseeker Lysander Alteon
History
Early Life
Stories hold Lysander was saved from a life in prison or on the streets of Pelíos by one of the guards who caught him mid theft attempt and, instead of handing out punishment, decided to adopt the child and train them. The child proved quick and clever, eventually becoming the very archetype of a rogue who could have proven quite the headache for his city had he not been raised with honesty and integrity. Instead, he became an investigator of some renown, helping to solve crimes with a rogue's keen eye and the ability to quietly search for evidence where others would be found or recognised.Arcane Training
As mages are typically the abiters of laws and punishment, Lysander had several interactions with local wizards and sorcerers when bringing them criminals or evidence. Eventually his skills caught the eye of a mage seeking an apprentice, and a hero was born. Lysander's arcane strength alone was far lesser than many of his peers, but were more than made up for by his intellect and creativity when using them. Naturally, almost stereotypically, he took to illusion magic more than other schools, using it to bolster his already impressive roguish abilities.Truthseeker
Emboldened by his training and granted the full authority of a Mágos, Lysander took to travelling the world, uncovering hidden secrets and meeting out justice wherever he could. In truth, he almost became a greater hindrance than a help in some cities, as false accusations were investigated fully, often exonerating plebian folk and revealing the corruption of local mages. More than once assassination attempts against him were made, yet every time he survived by his wit and his speed. On one famous occassion, he faked his death during a duel against a mage, using illusions to fade away in he same moment he dodged a Disintegration spell. The Veil & The Forge
A source of frustration during Lysander's adventures was his unending failure to find The Veil - a legendary cloak capable of hiding anyone or anything from eyes, ears, and even powerful divination magics. Simply finding it would be an epic achievement for any great hero, but getting to use it would make him the greatest rogue the world had ever seen. His time would come when The Veil fell into malicious hands. A group began using it to cause chaos by cloaking entire cities from the world, then tracking down and killing the most important individuals they could find. Even with all of Lysander's talents, he could not counter The Veil's power, and so sought help from the gods. He was led to the Godforge and passed many trials, eventually earning permission to use Creation, Hammer of Katas. With it he built Veilpiercer, a sword whose sole purpose was to destroy The Veil and its illusions. Blade in hand, he sought the city of Laskos, hidden by The Veil. He pierced the illusion, freeing the city and its people, before hunting down the evildoers causing such strife. There was no great battle that tore through the streets, no explosive exchanges of magic. It was simply a game of cat and mouse, hunting and hiding. Many hours of masking himself while searching for signs, eventually Lysander caught the slightest hint of a cloak and thrust, stabbing through both the relic and it's wearer, destroying both in one fell swoop.Aftermath
With his greatest feat achieved, the Truthseeker faded into obscurity. Some claim he died in Laskos, others that he repaired The Veil and snuck beyond the borders of our waking world, and others that he simply retired, living the rest of his life quietly and happily.
