Hønesøra
Once part of Greniströnd, Hønesøra (before it took up the cause of secession and bore that name), was simply the eastern poppy fields of it's father country. Particularly the blue poppies, a variety that is highly prized for its ability to therapeutically assist individuals with their ability to condense Aether, or to heal Aether Burn. Combined with the red poppies that grew in large quantities in Greniströnd, this built a powerful economy based on the export of opium and mana that could be made from the two varieties of flower.
For a time, the arrangement was considered sufficient, and the farming of those poppies occupied the people of the nation. Through shrewd agricultural and business practices, and the fact that most of the newly constructed plants for the refinement of opium and mana were built within the Hønesøra region, the economy of the area started to outpace the rest of the nation. With this explosive growth, many of the plantation owners wanted the ability to further grow their business opportunities but were stymied by government regulations put in place explicitly to limit their growth. Some attribute such action to logical economic thought, moral action (as some plantation owners were advocating for the expansion of the indentured servant system into full-blown slavery), or personal reasons from the policymakers in Kiviõstad, but the end result was the alienation of the region.
The resentment built for about ten years before it boiled over until full revolt broke out with talks of secession, quickly resulting in the War of Red and Blue Poppies. The civil war raged for 10 years, destroying millions of pounds in poppy crops, both red and blue, and killing 5% of the population, with about 620,000 casualties, not counting the civilian loss of life. In the end, both sides tired themselves out with the war and risked complete collapse. After the battle of Third Fields and the subsequent death of many of the hotter heads of both sides were killed in battle (in the case of the Hønesøran forces) and and paddle boat accident politicians) resulted in an eventual cessation of hostilities and a peace agreement being signed under the eyes of the other nation of the Northpact, Åleland.
Several provisions were included in the peace agreement, besides the agreement to partition the now separate nations, that left both sides somewhat satisfied. Greniströnd would not attempt to undermine Hønesøra's economic growth (not outwardly, at least), for example. Hønesøra, for its part, would be limited from implementing something as monstrous as the pre-war slavery idea or risk Åleland stepping in to . Admittedly, many of those who had advocated for such an idea had either been killed or completely bankrupted by the war's end.
Since the wars final throws, the poppy fields have been replanted and processing plants rebuilt, and the now-paired nations have continued on quietly, the war a mad memory now. For the most part Hønesøra, and all of the Northpact, have flown under the radar on the world stage and ingrained themselves as makers of medical supplies for many nations.
