Wildspace Geographic Location in A Sea Among the Stars | World Anvil

Wildspace

Pockets of vacuum inside the Astral Sea are called Wildspace. Paradoxically it's those little bubbles of nothing that contain most of anything.   Most, but not all, Wildspace pockets naturally form around Stars or similar massive stellar objects. Around them are orbiting planets and similar objects. All throughout Wildspace you can find the Phlogiston that condenses into rainbow colored streams the span the entirety of the system.

Wildspace in the Astral Sea

From inside Wildspace the Astral Sea is for the most parts invisible, allowing for the majestic view that is a sky full of stars. When you reach the system's edges, you start to see the Astral Sea appear as a purplish silvery mist.   Wildspace pockets move inside the Astral Sea. They can be imagined as bubbles on the surface of a rough sea. This movement is imperceivable inside the pocket but may change the relative position of the pockets to each other. Yet the dimensions and time scales for those movements are so vast and astronomical that for most mortal beings, they are relevant.   Legends indicate that some Wildspace systems may, at some point, have been encased into crystal spheres that would prohibit any travel between Wildspace and the Astral Sea. But no such crystal sphere has been found. Only fragments drifting through the Astral Sea lend some credence to this legend.

Orbital Mechanics

Most larger objects in a solar system (Planets, Asteroid Fields, and Space Anomalies) rotate at the same pace around the central axis of the system. It is believed that this is a by-product of the dense flows of Phlogiston that somehow seem to stabilize and synchronize orbital movements. That means the relative positions of locations inside a system remain constant for all intents and purposes. That being said, there are occasional outliers that defy this general rule.
