Baron

Baron was a noble title of Falarin granted to those who possessed a castle holding or a similar military hold within a territory but did not possess full authority over the county. Baron's usually served underneath a Count or represented a nations inability to fully control a territory and merely maintain a military fortification.
An example of this was Baron Julien Emeric Guillome who was nominally the ruler of Taramot. As he was unable to wield full authority over all the settlements and people on the island he was only granted the rank of Baron and not Count.
