Edmont

Edmont was a nation in northern Viala during the First Age. Often acting as a bridge between the Vialan and Teremian people Edmont was ruled by a witan formed from the leading barons, clergymen and unlanded dignitaries in the land. Those with land were allowed to elect a king who acted more as a mediator for the witan that a ruler in the classic sense.
During the events of the Ashen Interventions the witan chose to appoint King Markos Zarovich as their sovereign in fear of assault from the growing Kingdom of Cymbar to the south. As a result of this Edmont became an effective member of the Kingdom of Zarosk but retaining nominal autonomy under the laws of its witan.
