Elementals

Unlike the Genasi who in their own realm are beings made of the elements elementals in Aesalia are the animated and powered elements of the material plane.
Aesalian elementals, which shall be referred to as elementals from this point, are without sentience and can best be considered a telekinetically animated bundle of fire, water, earth, etc. These beings can understand and follow basic commands but are otherwise no different from the material components that make them.
Elementals are not uncommon around magical academies and are often a staple of any conjurers education. The most powerful conjurers are said to be able to create permanent and more intelligent elementals. The binding of a mortal soul to an elemental create a Golem which is a quite different entity.
Elementals are considered part of the conjuration school of magic despite not requiring binding from another realm. There are several reasons for this trend:
Firstly common academic belief was, and common folk knowledge remains, that elementals were beings from the plane of order and their creation was summoning. This was perpetuated by many conjurers who learned the truth continuing the rumours to keep the magic to themselves. Many academic circles still class it as conjuration in part to test the knowledge of new students as to whether they realise the problem.
Secondly conjuration as a school is most related to the creation of beings that obey magi. As such elementals, while not summoned, are ‘conjured’ into being thus making them as such.
