Golems
Through a series of complex rituals life may be bounded to a static material form creating a golem. While commonplace in Dwarvish Thaigs few societies outside the mountains find regular encounter with such creatures bar the Golden City. Golem’s souls are sometimes taken from the lingering ghosts of a place but more often from a living being. In either case the extent to which they recall their past varies especially as they grow old and their prior life becomes more like a distant dream.
Golems can be created in two ways either with their forms made by craftsman, as if often tradition, or their form being a former elemental. In either case a Golem is made when a once mortal soul is bound to the material object granting the Golem sentience and the soul a new life.
Golems often have some memory of their former lives, often depending on how long ago they died and the style of the binding. Like with Tiefling, Aasimar and Genasi it is possible for conjurers to erase prior memories in the binding ritual though the practice is usually considered unethical in circumstances where Golem’s are volunteers to the process due to its needless cruelty.
Golem binding also follows the tradition of servitude though this style can vary from common summoned beings. Due to Dwarves largely pioneering golemancy many golems are bound in servitude to the owner of an item instead of a simple mortal life. In this sense the service of a Golem can continue for all time if it is properly maintained. Golems can also be easily given as gifts by the passage of the ‘control rod’. Destruction of the ‘control rod’ while difficult and impossible by a Golem’s direct action releases the Golem from servitude.
The concealment of golemancy secrets has been strictly enforced within Dwarven society though texts detailing the process can ocasionally be found scattered through Aesalia. The magic of their creation, and indeed Golems no longer bound to masters, have increasingly found their way into the outer world and while still uncommon many esteemed magical schools can boast a Golem within their halls.
Warforged
Particularly elite golems the Warforged are designed by artisans before being invested with a spirit. These beings are extremely rare and found only among the most elite of society as personal bodyguards or the spirits of great heroes.
Gibbering Mouther
Created in early attempts to create a Flesh Golem the Gibbering Mouther is a grotesque being that takes on the mouths and eyes of any it feeds on. Such beings are considered horrific even by Morillisean standards and often reserved for use in arenas or to unleash on prisoners earning the displeasure of tyrants.
Most of these beings have been killed but the means to create them remains within the The Black Library for any twisted necromancer with the favour of the Wight King to find.
Gorgon
A uniquely Dwarven creation Gorgon’s are animal spirits transferred into iron beasts and often locked away to protect Paragons, or other notable Dwarves, tombs. When Gorgon’s find their way into the Under-Roads entire Thaig's will often work together to find and slay them knowing too well of the danger such a being can cause as it turns patrols to stone and smashes them under its great tusks.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Golems can take any form dependent on the intentions and desires of the creator but most possess a broadly humanoid frame. Golemancers believe the process to be smoother when the received form more closely reflects that of their original appearence.
