Ogre
With careful melding of Giants and Orcs Ogres were created as large blubbering beasts that could support Orcish armies. Ogre’s small minds rapidly decayed from their marital experiences leaving them little more than organic siege engines.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Ogre's possess a standard humanoid anatomy with often stocky limb and bulging chests. Ogre's possessed notably thick skin and sharp pronounced teeth in what otherwise looked like a significantly enlarged orc.
Genetics and Reproduction
The ogre gene is a recessive one that can unexpectedly emerge in any union between a primate-descended species so long as at least one party is an orc, so long as both of the parties have the ogre gene which itself comes from a giant ancestor. Generations can pass without sign of an ogre child before one is unexpectedly born though ogres themselves can more easily conceive their kin with female ogres being largely revered for the ease with which they can increase their numbers.
Ogres gestation period is usually around twelve to sixteen month and grow to a large size that most often paralyzes the parent during the latter month of gestation. Non-ogre mothers often perish in the birth process and ogres that kill their parents with two-three months left can survive beyond the womb with extreme care.
Ogres themselves can breed with any other primate species with a higher chance of conceiving ogres from their unions. Ogres are often bred by handlers in a clan to ensure their number do not deplete.
Growth Rate & Stages
Ogres mature and grow in three stages largely identified as infantile, half-ogre and ogre respectively.
The infantile stage lasts for the first decade of an ogres life. Starting as they leave the womb, ogres are already significant in size often twice the size of their non-ogre kin of the same parental union. They grow swiftly easily putting on significant muscle mass with a highly demanding diet to sponsor their rapid growth. Mental development is significantly slower with ogres a decade old often struggling with compound sentences.
The half-ogre stage begins at around a decade of age wherein ogres are about two metres in height and appear as taller more gruff and unsophisticated orcs. Half-ogres are the pubescent stage of an ogres life that lasts for about eighty years to a century. During this stage ogres receive their emotional development and often begin to form close loyalties to their carers that last for the rest of their lives. This stage also marks their sexual awakening with half-ogres often forming relationships with those raised in their environment.
At the end of the half-ogre stage of their life ogres experience a significant metamorphosis that erupts as an unending hunger that lasts around four months. During this shift half-ogres have a painful yearning for food that leads them to abandon most of their morality in search of food if not provided willingly but also sees their bodies continue to grow and bulk on mass into becoming a fully formed ogre. As an ogre they continue to live for around seven hundred years.
Ecology and Habitats
Ogres prefer dryer environments often favouring cave systems as their homes which they fill with the bones and food of their victims.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Ogres are largely carnivorous requiring a large amount of protein to maintain their bodies. Infantile and half-ogre stages require about the same amount of food as an orc but during the ogre stage they require about a horse's weight in food each day.
Additional Information
Average Intelligence
Ogres have very limited intellectual ability and struggle greatly with even simple English ideas such as compound sentences and idioms. Ogres that focus on learning and regularly engage with scholarship can become learned but often require significant aid and additional work.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
While Ogres possess arcanum in their blood they rarely possess the larger intelligence needed to effectively wield it
