Warchief of Solstein
Warchief was the title given to the leader of Solstein during the mythic age.
Appointment
The Warchief was appointed during a Ting Meet following the death or abdication of their predecessor. The Jarls of the valley gathered in Calgurn to vote on their new leader with each clan being entitled to a single vote. The final decision was binding and each Jarl would then swear their oath of allegiance.
If a Jarl was dissatisfied with a warchief's reign they could demand a revote if they had the support of at least three other Jarls. If the Warchief succeeded in the vote they could not be challenged again for a decade.
Duties
Warchief's responsibilities were both domestic and foreign. With most clan affairs being managed internally the Warchief's domestic concern was ensuring the clans remained at peace and mediating any tensions or conflicts that arose between them. The foreign responsibilities concerned warning the clans in the event of an attack on Solstein, leading the clans against any major threat that emerged and organising and either leading or choosing the leaders of the raids that would occur in the lowlands.
