Sluagh
Sluaghs are a type of undead creature created from the dead of Duairlacht. They seem to exist for the sole purpose of attacking Duairlachtans. Their origin is unknown, but many blame the Selríochtians, because of the fact that they do not occur in Selríocht.
Sluaghs quite often simply kill their victims, but they are sometimes known to kidnap them instead. Their reasons for doing so are unknown, but some speculate that it is either because they sustain themselves with their victims' Souls or that they kidnap them to turn them into sluaghs.
Basic Information
Anatomy
There are two parts to a sluagh's body. The first is the physical body, and the second is the spectral body. The physical body is the actual corpse of the deceased. It can function independently in a limited capacity, but has no grasp of tactics or self-preservation. The spectral body, on the other hand, is the Soul of the deceased, having been twisted into a monstrous entity. The spectral body retains its memories and personality, although the process of becoming a sluagh results in them being destructive and evil, regardless of their disposition in life. The spectral body is also capable of controlling the physical body. The spectral body is tethered to the physical one, unable to travel more than three hundred feet away from it. If the physical body dies, the spectral body dies with it.
A sluagh's physical body can only be killed if it is completely destroyed, although it can be temporarily incapacitated by removing its limbs and head, however, this is not permanent, as the spectral body can gather the pieces and reassemble them.
A sluagh's spectral body can only be killed if the physical body is destroyed. However, it can be repelled by a few things:
- Salt - The sluagh has difficulty crossing salt lines, as it will experience extreme pain if it comes into contact with it.
- Iron - Iron can temporarily damage the sluagh, which can render parts of its body unusable or even cause it to disperse entirely, in which case it will reappear shortly at the location of the physical body.
- Holy water - The holy water of certain gods, those who are opposed to the undead, has similar effects to salt but is more powerful, being nearly impossible to cross regardless of the effort used, and able to actually damage it in a similar manner to iron.
Additional Information
Social Structure
All sluaghs have a common goal, which is the destruction of Duairlacht. However, they typically operate alone or in small groups, and lack any kind of large-scale organization.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Sluaghs are found only in Duairlacht.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
A sluagh's senses are identical to the ones they had in life. The spectral body can make use of its own senses as well as those of the physical body simultaneously.
