It is said that when the first mortal committed acts against the harmony of the world and fell into The Abyss on their death, that mortal avoided the embrace of the Styx and, their mind intact, set about establishing a dominion. This damned soul became the first Devil, and then the first Archdevil, Ultima the Peerless, eternal and unchallenged (this is not strictly true; he has never been successfully challenged, but challenges there have been) Prince Absolute of the Nine Hells. He oversaw the securing of the Nine Hells and the mustering of their legions. He raised the Absolute Citadel on the summit of Mount Nadir, commissioned the infernal arms from Fulmar the Doomhammer, and has felled every rival to come against him with the forked spear Adastra.
Ultima possesses power greater than any dead god, and many living divinities. He is unparalleled among the Archdevils, a match for any Demon Prince, beyond the reach of gods and mortals, and he knows it. No paranoia haunts the days of Ultima, only the constant need to extend his domain and overthrow the demons that prevent him conquering all of Existence. Besides this, his only ambition is to attain true divinity, a state that would put him beyond almost any harm, and grant him the power to dispatch any foe.
Ultima is a colossal figure of shadow, clad in battle armour of siderite and wearing a nine-pointed crown, each point carved from one of the Imperishable Substances to signify his mastery of the nine Pillars of Aiaos. His footfalls shake the ground he treads, and his presence draws all heat from his surroundings.
