Session 11
Session Date: April 10, 2020
General Summary
Xepug,
I'm writing this letter to keep you updated on our doings since we left Hiruela. No doubt the others have kept you abreast of what happened during our time in the Kobold Caves, the fight with the Spider Queen, the Cave of Wonders, finding Lakota, and the various challenge rooms before finally killing off a devil and his minions. We did find some amazing treasure. As you know while I am a cleric, I have a soft spot for the shiny magical things, hence why I even worked for you.
I'm not sure when this will get to you, but some day we will eventually get off this realm and back home. But that's off track.
So after all that, we met "PIP", our Prophecy Implementation Peon. I don't quite understand what this prophecy business means, but I can only hope that Pelor provides me the guidance to go forward. He led us to a realm called Mechanus. This land is eerily…. temperate? Perhaps too temperate. I can best describe this place as an overly complex grandfather clock the size of a planet.
PIP led us through this maze of a city, constantly looking at various clipboards and charts and filling out papers on Pelor knows what. He talks of some of prophecy registration and identity verification and meeting the "proper authorities". While we walked, I noticed the city has many denizens of various shapes and sizes and configurations. It's quite a world and I wouldn't mind spending some time exploring it, but I may have some more urgent business elsewhere...
Anyways, PIP led us to a door with the title "Proper Authorities". Then I knew this would a be pun place.
The door led into an enormous room filled with creatures of all sorts from various worlds and realms. Spartan, our dragonborn who only truly exists for the battlefield, even found some of his kind to chat with. I think he's just really with us because it's an outlet for him to kill things but hey, a lightning breathing giant lizard is useful in a fight. After some waiting in the queue (there's always a queue somewhere), we talked to another strange fellow with many arms and heads named PRINCE the Peon Reporting in New Clairvoyant Entries.
PRINCE asked us for our group name and wanted to "verify our identity". Spartan yelled out "Wu Tang Clan" before anyone else… and we kind of accepted it. I suppose that is appropriate since our adoption of poor Ayri, the "Four Horsemen" didn't quite make sense. It's fitting in a way, since "Wu" means five in an old Eastern dialect. I thought his question about my first boyfriend was quite silly. The boys never lasted long enough to be considered "boyfriends" and often the girls lasted longer. Oh Lara… but I digress.
We turned in one of their oldest prophecies giving us ownership of the "core" and a "meal". I've learned to be weary of this pun place so I wasn't sure what to make of it at the time. PIP promptly led us away from PRINCE and led us to the Overflow District, basically a giant marketplace. Lothar fleeced a couple of vendors when he sold his gems but he got some drinks. I don’t understand how he can drink some of that stuff, it's practically pure alcohol. I'll take my White Claw any day. I did manage to find out the light hammer I found during our Lakota rescue is used to craft golems. It's a very valuable item. That might be useful to learn more about golem building so that when I build my temple to Pelor, I can have them work on that. But that's another dream for another day.
The Fantasy Burrito Stall was phenomenal, I would recommend it if you ever get to Mechanus.
After shopping, we met up with PIP who led us to a platform outside of town and told us to meet the modron protecting the "core" and would assist us further. We walked through the portal, Spartan first as always. That lizard, he always jumps.
Inside we arrived into a large pit area with unfriendly glowing walls with five Formians up above on a raised balcony area. When we got their attention, they clearly were not friendly and wanted to stake their claim on this area. The damned soldier-ant activated the glowing walls which started to close into the center of the room. Thankfully we figured out that a platform would start raising towards the balcony that was being protected by the Formian soldier-ant and its four worker-ants.
We took a little time to arrange ourselves to ensure we could step on the platform all at once to while taking some pot shots at the workers. Ayri and I managed to hit the soldier-ant a couple times with crossbow bolts and Lothar managed to hit it would a nice Eldritch blast. That one must have hurt.
One of the worker-ants jumped at me and took a nice bite while Lothar blasted another worker-ant so hard that it ended up dangling off the platform. The fire rose higher and scorched off the rest of the worker-ant, leaving only an arm behind. Lothar received a blessing from his Dark One. (I must learn more about this dark pact he has to ensure that it is not any enemy of Pelor). While that happened the soldier-ant jumped across and pushed Ayri while attacking Moses and myself. Those hits were not fun.
Spartan, with his massive stone arm sword, instantly demolished the worker-ant next to me and I managed to move around Spartan to get a reprieve before re-engaging. Anther worker-ant jumped onto the platform and tried to push Moses off. He managed to grab a hand on the platform but it was close. Ayri attacked the worker-ant near him but lost his dagger while trying to land a second strike. Soon after Moses got severely burned and started roasting. It was not looking good for our friendly bard but Lothar managed to levitate Moses behind Spartan. Right after, Lothar got hit by the soldier-ant's stingers but was able to withstand the hit.
Spartan swung and missed the soldier-ant but the soldier-ant's counterattack did not work in its favor… it ended up attacking itself through our Portal Kite-Shields! What a site! Lothar was attacked again but the worker-ant missed but it was close. Ayri refocused on the soldier-ant and tried to hit it with the shortsword. He missed but he managed to drive his dagger right into the neck of the soldier-ant and swung up, splitting the head in "twain" as he described it. I took this time to drop back and heal Moses to keep him from dying. It wasn't pretty, but Pelor helped me.
Lothar tried another eldritch blast but missed. Spartan followed up with a complete evisceration of another worker-ant with his powerful sword. You could see the joy of battle in his eyes. Lothar dodged another bite from the last worker-ant and Ayri seized the opportunity by driving his shortsword right into the exposed abdomen of the worker-ant, giving it a painful death.
Final tally: Lothar 1, Spartan 2, Ayri 2. Our new thief isn't too bad in a tussle.
We turn off the firewall and tried to walk through the draconic-covered door. Not knowing what to do, fortunately (or unfortunately) PIP walked through another portal. We asked him if he understood the language but said that translation requests would take 4-6 years. Not having that sort of time, we decided to find Lakota to see if he'd lend us a hand.
I believe one of the others wanted to fill you in about that little adventure. I'll let him provide you those details.
Lakota was able to translate the writing into "Draw your weapons and show me". So we took our weapons out facing the door. My clumsy self took a nice little push while the others managed to dodge that defense mechanism. Lakota not helpfully added "That wasn't it". Lothar decided to stretch his artistic skills and sketched everyone's weapons and presented it to the door. It decided to open.
What a pun place indeed. So pun.
We entered into a giant room with a small modron in front of a giant metallic dragon statue. It was truly a magnificent thing to behold. The statue, not the modron. The modron introduced himself as the Prophecy Reserved Ordinance Support Peon Entrusted to Offer Remedies aka "Prospector". Clearly the modron had been left here alone for too long and barely knew how to interact with living creatures again. However, he did direct us to the door behind the giant statue. Lakota was able to translate the writing on the door as "If you show me yours I will show you mine". Earlier, we saw a pedestal that looked like something should be placed on it. We tried placing various things on the pedestal before Moses put down a tome that he hidden away from the rest of us (that bastard) on the pedestal. The pedestal receded down with the tome and the door opened.
The door opened into an immense field on a plain at a mind-boggling 90-degree angle to other continents. Prospector excitedly surveys the field and told us that this "gear" was ours. So I suppose we own this land-mass now. We were given some history on the world of Mechanus and the stories of Primus before his disappearance.
Finally we found a raised area with a structure on it. Having no other place to go, we climbed the platform, it was no small platform, and entered the main structure. Inside there was a smaller version of the gigantic metallic dragon statue. It was missing a couple of its heads and the present head only had one eye. Prospector looked at the statue and said "This is your M.E.A.L! Your Mythical Ethereal Analore!"
Oh the pun times we are having.
Prospector explained more of the history of the planes of existence and how these Analores were used to track great failures and accomplishments and how this particular M.E.A.L. was for Primus. Moses puts into the prophecy orb into the eye socket and 4 clockwork golems became animated and started carving into its skin. As they finished, a weapon dropped out of its mouth. The weapon is called the "Last Laugh" which enables stronger precision and force for certain magical attacks. Lothar seemed the best candidate to equip it so he was given the gun.
Then, we became stuck on this gear. Some strange things did happen during this stuck phase.
Strange markings started to appear on Spartan's skin in a language that even Lakota did not know. The only recognizable part was the term "Cortana Protocol" but Spartan didn't quite know what it meant.
Moses started to remember more about his past. He realized that portals on Mechanus worked differently from the ones he was more familiar with and that they could talk.
And as for myself, during one of my meditative contemplation sessions, my holy symbol, the holy symbol given to me by old Peitas as good luck and a blessing on my journeys, crumbled into dark ash with not even a trace left. I am concerned at what this means and I must speak to the High Cleric at Hiruela about this incident. Something is off and something is wrong. I must learn more.
Anyways, I hear some commotion and I have been writing this letter for some time. This should be enough to keep you up-to-date on our doings.
