The Cleaving

The Cleaving (1495 BT-1 CT) was a coup followed by a short but intense war among The Great Houses of Albion in which Clan MacFarlane emerged victorious.   In the year 1495 BT, Pharlain the Elder the Laird of Clan MacFarlane, assassinated his co-kings from the other Great Houses (MacLeod, Donald, and Buchanan) and took the title of The Righ ('Chief-King") for himself. The resulting chaos and conflict ended when Pharlain the Elder banished the members of the Great Houses back to their ancestral homes in the Tuathalba region in the north of Albion.   During The Bonding Times, the leaders of the four Great Houses of Albion maintained a regented peace through a form of co-kingship called The Ceithir. On the evening of 1495 Gilpean 10, while the leaders of The Great Houses met in council, Pharlain the Elder managed to slip poison into the ceremonial drinks consumed by the kings as a symbol of their shared responsibility.
