The Hard Times
The Hard Times were a period of drought, plagues, cold, darkness and abnormal weather that struck the island of Sgitheanach Dubh. The weather changes came on suddenly and lasted for a significant period of time (764-807 CT). The results were crop failures, water shortages, insect plagues, diseases and numerous other harmful effects. Many inhabitants of the island perished or suffered greatly.
The difficult times allowed for the arrival or emergence of evil or dangerous creatures across the island. Help from the other Innsegall Islands and the Tuathalba allowed the inhabitants to survive but not prosper. Over time the weather began to stabilize and return to normal. However, the damage had been done to the land and the people.
One area that did not suffer was The Dark Land. The dark forest seemed immune, as if under magical protective wards. The anger and resentment spilled over against the Wood Elves and the Island Elves. This resulted in The Dark War.
