The Dark War
A brutal clash between the Elves of the Fearann Dorcha aka The Dark Land and human clans over dominance of the forest and the rich resources found there.
The Conflict
Prelude
The conflict began as a result of long simmering anger and resentment from humans living on Sgitheanach Dubh as they suffered through The Hard Times. The long period of drought, crop failures, cold and darkness caused starvation, anger, frustration and eventually violence. The humans (and some of the other races) suffered greatly during the hard times. Meanwhile, the Fearann Dorcha aka The Dark Land and its inhabitants seemed to be immune to the disaster and plagues that surrounded the magical forest.
Deployment
Eventually the anger and resentment caused groups of humans and other races to take their hatred out on the Wood Elves and Island Elves Elves of the Fearann Dorcha aka The Dark Land. Humans believed the forest was protected by magic that emanated form the Elves. Right or wrong, the humans sought revenge and retribution on the Elves for their own ills and suffering.
Battlefield
The conflict took place in and around the The Dark Land.
The Engagement
Small clashes led to larger offensives. Word spread of the conflict, which brought mercenaries and fortune seekers to the forest region. At the height of the conflict, the central region of Sgitheanach Dubh was ablaze (literally and figuratively).
Outcome
Over time the humans suffered much greater casualties and losses than the forest-dwellers. Squabbles among the clans and factions broke apart the tentative confederation with a common enemy. Slowly the conflict died down, but the anger and resentment remain under the surface on both sides.
Aftermath
Sgitheanach Dubh is still recovering from the the Dark War. The Trotternish seems to have suffered more than most areas of the island. This is due to the heavy impacts from The Hard Times and significant casualties suffered during the war.
