Yig
the Parcel Boa
The Yig, called the Parcel boa, is a giant constrictor snake. They are found on the Parcel islands. These snakes can grow up to 42 feet long and reach a weight of over 2000 pounds. Though fossils and ancient remains of these massive creatures have been found on the Thoamaine Peninsula, none have ever been found on the mainland alive. Snake cults were once common throughout early history on the islands of the Pryde Waters and Capedian Sea. This, and the many Capedian epics of heroes fighting dragons and giant snakes on island adventures lead many to believe these snakes must have once been extremely common on many of the islands west of Novyum.
Hunted to near extintion in the past, they are rare in the modern day. Yig are extremely feared throughout Parcel. They seem to have little fear of the Humans in return. Tavern tales of sewer-dwelling yig that venture out at the rising moons to eat naughty children are common. There are more than a few reports of the giant snakes swimming out to fishing ships to snatch a sailor or two. Most small fishing boats that go missing or turn up abandoned are attributed to the snake.
Yigs are known to be able to survive and swim in salt water for long periods, though they are usually observed doing so when they either have no choice, are on a hunt, or during mating season. The later is the males island hopping in search of females. Their common habitat, however, is the inland forests of the island, hunting deer and other mammals.
