Personal history
Al-Kin was a mortal who became a vampire in the age immediately following the Dawn War. Known to be one of the most ancient and powerful of his kind in Alen'dal, he competed with Innasehe and Vecna for control of the divine domain of death. However, before he could see his ambitions fulfilled, the yuan-ti warlocks of Montelzoa, a city that would eventually become Ravenmoor, cast a powerful spell that sealed him in the shadowfell.
For many years, Al-Kin sent undead minions from his stronghold through a portal to the Prime Material plane to terrorize Ravenmoor. However, after escaping from Al-Kin's castle Mandus kept Al-Kin's forces in check through constant vigilance of the portal beneath First Light Orphanage.
Circumstances eventually drew Mandus away from the orphanage, and Al-Kin immediately seized his chance. His minion Queen Ixlati entered Ravenmoor with a small army of Al-Kin's undead, as well as her personal forces of yuan-ti. They tore down First Light Orphanage and enslaved the populace of Ravenmoor in order to construct a pyramid around the gate, thus securing it as a staging point for Al-Kin's full-scale invasion of Alen'dal.
When Mandus returned to put a stop to this, he was overpowered and brought through the gate to a second portal atop one of the towers in Al-Kin's castle, which led to the Plane of Negative Energy. Through this portal, powered by Mandus' life energy, Al-Kin was ready to summon infinite legions of undead. It was at this point that the Antiheroes reached his castle, having fought through Ravenmoor, into the pyramid, and across the Shadowfell. Secure in his victory, Al-Kin hosted the Antiheroes as guests at dinner. Afterward, when the Antiheroes explored the castle and freed Mandus, Al-Kin arrived to deal with them personally and was slain once and for all by Harmony's conjured rays of sunlight.
