Morn (a.k.a. Mandus)

Headmaster of the First Light Orphanage in Ravenmoor, Mandus provided much-needed aid to the Antiheroes early in their adventure and has proven himself as a trusted and vital ally since.

Physical Description

Body Features

Mandus's skin exhibits some minor wrinkling as a mark of his ever-increasing age, but his body is otherwise in near perfect condition, a tribute to his rigorous martial arts training.

Facial Features

Mandus has an oval-shaped face with wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes that were etched there by his constant gentle smile. His eyes are a clear crystalline blue color, like an iced-over mountain lake. His hair is mostly straight, but with a slight wave, and was once dark but is now streaked with gray. He usually lets it fall loosely around his face, at about chin-length. A short beard decorates his strong jawline.

Special abilities

Mandus is an adult silver shadow dragon and can transform into dragon form to face powerful foes, but he has also trained as a monk in his human form and is well equipped to deal with most threats without revealing his secret.

Personal history

When Mandus was young (a silver dragon by the name of Morn), he swore an oath to a human friend that he would rescue her child from a powerful vampire imprisoned in the shadowfell. This vampire named Al-Kin terrorized the region around Ravenmoor when it was still the Yuan-Ti city of Montelzoa. Yuan-Ti warlocks cordoned off a section of the shadowfell and sealed him there. But that didn't stop Al-Kin amassing undead followers in the shadowfell and sending them through shadow crossings to do his bidding. Mandus brought a bronze dragon companion named Kydus with him to confront Al-Kin. However, the pair did not know about Ixlati, a Yuan-Ti warrior queen who had ventured into the Al-Kin's domain seeking a way to immortalize her power and beauty. Al-Kin offered her what she sought, but the transformation brought upon her by Al-Kin's magic had lasting effect, transforming her into a creature of nightmarish strength and grace, a Medusa. Ixlati returned to Montelzoa but her former subjects shunned her. She was forced to return to Al-Kin's domain where she too fell under the power of his vampiric charm.
Together, Al-Kin and Ixlati defeated Morn and Kydus, imprisoning them and tormenting them until, many years later, they were nearly broken. The young human city of Ravenmoor was struggling to survive. Under attack from undead every night, the death toll was constantly on the rise. without the silver dragons who used to call the region home, the humans were defenseless. However, a nomadic tribe of tieflings came to the area. At first the humans were afraid and attempted to drive the tieflings off, but there was one persistent member of the tribe, Harmony's grandmother, Devotion. Devotion investigated the cause of the humans' rash reactions and discovered the source of their plight, the shadow crossing which now resides under First Light Orphanage. Devotion led a combined force of human and tiefling warriors into the shadowfell to Al-Kin's castle and together they rescued Mandus. However, Kydus, who already reveled in battle and sought to prove his strength before entering the shadowfell, had been consumed by the shadow, twisted and broken by it. He refused to leave. By the time Morn was rescued, the human friend he swore an oath to had been dead for many years, along with all of her family. Changed by the shadowfell himself, Morn revoked his old name and took on a new name: Mandus. He then swore to protect the human city from Al-Kin and the horrors of the shadowfell. Devotion and her tribe soon left the area, but Mandus never forgot his debt to her and swore that he would always do anything for her and her descendants. From that day on Mandus has defended the crossing and sought to find individuals who he could trust enough to help him get revenge on Al-Kin for all the evil he has wrought upon the world.

One of Mandus's greatest regrets in all his long years is that he was unable to rescue the child of his human friend from Al-Kin's clutches.

Mental Trauma

During his imprisonment in the shadowfell, Mandus was subjected to torture and experimentation at the hands of the vampire Al-Kin, transforming him partially into a shadow dragon.

Intellectual Characteristics

Mandus is calm and meditative, never taking action without careful consideration unless the situation absolutely demands an immediate response.
He has a strong sense of loyalty towards those he cares about and their families. When he met Harmony, his loyalty toward Devotion even manifested across generations.
