Citadel of Glass
After the Breaking of Alterra and the suffering caused by the Mystblight, the Elven population of the world did not recover as well as many of the other races; however, fey deities blessed a portion of the north Estrata wilderness as a safe haven for displaced Estratan Elves. This kingdom is now regarded as a sacred Elven civilization. The city's name comes from the massive quartz wards that surround it.
Demographics
Over 85% of the inhabitants of this city are Elves of some kind. 10% consist of half elves and humans. The remaining 5% consist of other races.
Government
The Citadel of Glass is led by a theocratic council led by the Archapostle and their 5 apostles; each apostle is dedicated to a specific elven or fey deity and the Archapostle's role is to maintain balance between each sect in the city. Ranks under Apostle (1 per diety) include High Devotee (1 per temple), Devotee, and Novice. Apostle ranks are held for 100 years or until death. When a new Apostle is needed, the High Devotees are tested by the remaining Apostles as well as the Devotees of their given diety. Due to the level of dedication required to move up through the ranks, short-lived races may not be able to move up past Devotee.
The Apostle of Chlroylas (Elven goddess of nature) oversees city architecture as well as the production of agriculture within the citadel and nearby regions. Many druids in the region may be fast-tracked to become Devotees of Chlorylas depending on their talents. These devotees are often recruited to assess for and punish any crimes against nature.
The Apostle of Egytharminh (Fey god of loyalty and protection) oversees both the magical and mundane defenses of the citadel. The citadel's protection force is known as the Egythayrn Corps. Devotees of the Egytharyn Corps carry out various duties such as peacekeeping patrols, surveillance of the outer barriers, and assisting followers of Seyanine maintenance of protective wards
The Apostle of Garelon (Elven god of light and stars) oversees the legal and educational systems within the city and nearby regions. Those on track to become Devotees of Garelon often pursue careers as scribes, tutors, and/or paralegals; those who have achieved this rank often become lawyers, judges, professors, or philosophers.
The Apostle of Seyanine (Elven god of night and luck) oversees religious and death rites, as well as protective wards over the citadel and nearby areas. Temples devoted to Seyanine are often visited by those seeking to improve their luck or to ensure the peaceful rest of deceased loved ones. Many temples, regardless of their devotion, may enlist Devotees of Seyanine to ensure that ceremonies, rites, or other procedures run smoothly.
The Apostle of Sominh (Fey goddess of kinship) oversees medical and social welfare systems within the citadel and nearby regions. The Temples of Sominh in the city ensure that nobody who seeks help goes hungry or is left without shelter. Only the kindest souls are allowed to become Devotees of Sominh; in fact, some devotees may even lose their rank if they turn away an individual in need.
Individuals living in the city may worship one, multiple, or each of the Citadel's patron dieties; however, in order to move up the ranks, one must pledge their devotion to a single diety. Once a novice, citizens are guaranteed work within their respective domains.
