Skywater

Elven and Merfolk culture merge in this civilization that stretches from the depths of the Crescent Sea, to the reaches of the Alterran sky. The main skyland of Skywater is the largest settled Skyland over Alterra.

Demographics

Racial Makeup: Due to the vast majority of its inhabitants living in undersea areas, Skywater's population is largely shallows merfolk, merfolk, water genasi, and sea elves. Shallows, water genasi, air genasi, humans, and half-elves are also quite common on terrestrial and skyland regions of Skywater.

Government

The Nation of Skywater is led by a head of state supported by their Grand Council. This council is made up of representatives from the nation's clergy, craftspeople, mages, aristocrats, soldiers, scholars, farmers, and dregs who each fulfil a role and hold a place at the Grand Council. The city knows relative prosperity despite the conflicts of interests between the groups and their constant infighting.

Districts

The Undersea Capitol - The majority of the Nation of Skywater's aquatic population resides in the Undersea Capitol. This district has one of the most extensive post-breaking histories as it was the least affected by the Mystblight. Much of the unique architecture in the mid levels of this area can be dated back to the early first century, over five hundred years before the Nation of Skywater extended out of the sea. Beyond the historical mid levels are the Capitol Depths and Subsurface communities. The capitol depths are home to the Grand Council as well as farms that produce goods that can only be cultivated in the deep sea. Similarly, subsurface farms produce crops unique to the Crescent Sea that require some degree of sunlight to flourish.   The Expanse of Skywater - While techinically not a part of the city of Skywater, the Expanse consists of all small towns, villages, and hamlets that exist within the borders of the Nation of Skywater, stretching to the east coast of Estrata. These settlements are a mix of subaquatic, terrestrial, island, and skyland communities. In exchange for resources, the city of Skywater is responsible for the protection of all communities within the Expanse.   The City in the Sky - With the popularization of sky travel, more and more terrestrial races began settling skylands in the late 500s AB. In recent times, the sky districts have become popular destinations for non-aquatic tourists and travelers who are keen on visiting Skywater. Numerous trade hubs of Skywater are situated on the main skyland. Both the main skyland and several surrounding skylands have attracted the attention of historians due to the abundance of pre-Breaking ruins discovered there.
